Lunar New Year Celebrations

The Adventures of Cheng Ho

What an amazing performance by our Year 6 learners in their Primary School Production, inspired by the Chinese explorer, Cheng Ho.

Over the last two months, with the help of all of their specialist teachers, Year 6 Learners have written scripts, built props, developed music and backgrounds and worked on their acting skills, to bring us an amazing student led production.

A huge thank you needs to go out to all of the parent helpers who sewed costumes and helped with makeup and hair on the night. Teachers who gave up a huge amount of their own time also need to be congratulated. Most of all, well done to all of the learners who went outside of their comfort zone, learning new skills in dance, music and art, to bring us their performance.

An amazing effort by everyone!

Art Splash 2018!

Last week, during the Learner Conferences, we hosted the annual 'Art Splash' event. This is an exciting exhibition and true celebration of Art created by our Primary learners in their specialist Visual Arts lessons. A wide range of artwork was on display including textiles, fashion, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking as well as drawing and painting. Many learners enthusiastically discussed their artwork with family and friends, demonstrating understanding of the inquiry and techniques taught, which was a real delight to see. This year, our collaborative art installation 'Interwoven' focused on the art of weaving. Visitors were encouraged to select fabric strips to weave together to create a colourful visual representation of our diverse community.

Many thanks to all of the CAs and to our Art Technician for helping support this event.

Nursey Learners visit to Orange Valley

Our youngest learners returned to Orange Valley this week to celebrate the Lunar New Year with the residents of our local care home. The learners made Chinese drums to play while they sang some of their favourite songs, in both English and Mandarin. After singing, the drums were gifted to the residents. The children then enjoyed time drawing and colouring pictures of lanterns and dragons with our elderly friends. As we said goodbye, our learners wished the residents good luck for the New Lunar Year by handing out oranges. It was delightful to see the smiles from both the residents and children as they spent the morning together. It really is a highlight of our term and we hope to visit again soon.
