Nexus Soloists Record with Songwork International at the Iconic Lion Studios!
Our talented Nexus International School soloists recently had an unforgettable opportunity to work with Songwork International, under the expert guidance of acclaimed producer, songwriter, and educator Roo Piggott, to professionally record their performances. Songwork International, founded by Roo, is a leading music education and production company dedicated to nurturing young artists through expert mentorship, real-world industry experience, and creative development.
The recording sessions took place at the legendary Lion Studios in Singapore; one of the country’s most iconic music landmarks. For over four decades, Lion Studios has been the creative home for many of Asia’s and the world's biggest names, including JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun, F.I.R., and even global legends like Bon Jovi and Air Supply. The studio is also home to a historic mixing desk; the very same model used to record Sting’s iconic hit "Every Breath You Take", adding a further layer of magic to the experience. With its rich musical history, outstanding acoustics, and world-class facilities, Lion Studios remains a cornerstone of Singapore’s vibrant music scene.
Through Songwork, Roo Piggott brings extensive international industry experience to young musicians, having worked with celebrated artists such as Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith, and Natalie Imbruglia. His sessions offer students rare, first-hand exposure to the professional recording process, inspiring them to refine their skills and approach their music like true recording artists.
This incredible opportunity not only allowed our Nexus soloists to record their music in a world-renowned studio, but also to learn directly from an industry leader deeply committed to developing the next generation of musical talent. We are immensely proud of their achievements and excited to see where their musical journeys will lead next and hear their final tracks post production.
On Tuesday 22 April, we were very lucky to be visited by the Northern Beaches Touring Band, part of the Northern Beaches Symphonic Winds - a community band from Sydney, Australia. The musicians from Australia performed for several classes in the primary school and demonstrated each instrument individually so the learners could hear what instruments sounded like on their own as well as in their various sections. We were also fortunate enough to be able to invite Nexus music learners to take part in a workshop with the musicians from Australia and they later performed for our Year 5-6 learners in an afternoon concert in the auditorium. The whole day was a fantastic experience for all, we had 'guest' conductors from Nexus who were able to control the musician performances and had the experience of being in charge of the conductors 'baton'. Well done to all Nexus learners involved and if you are interested in potentially learning an instrument at Nexus, please check out this link here.

On Wednesday 30 April, an Instrumental Petting Zoo was held during lunchtime to allow learners the opportunity to actually 'try' instruments from the woodwind and brass family. This is an invaluable experience as learners could hold the instruments, see how they felt and whether they had an interest to learn an instrument.
Learning an instrument from a young age offers several key benefits:
Cognitive development: Enhances memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.
Academic improvement: Linked to better performance in math, reading, and language.
Motor skills: Improves coordination and fine motor control.
Discipline and patience: Builds focus and perseverance through practice.
Emotional expression: Encourages creativity and emotional awareness.
Social skills: Offers teamwork experience through group music activities.
For anyone that is interested in learning an instrument the music department are offering 'free rental' on an instrument of your child's choice. For sign up and more information, click here
The Music Department will hold another Instrument Petting Zoo early in the 2025-2026 school year.
Last week, we held our Term 4 Stay and Play for both Nursery and Kindergarten. We began the morning with a community coffee in the Level 5 Cafeteria. It was a wonderful time of growing connections between home and school, but also for families to get to know each other better. When we transitioned to the learning environment, the hub was 'abuzz' with excitement as the children found their families to share their learning with. Our confident learners led their families around the indoor and outdoor learning spaces and had a wonderful time!
