Dear Primary Families
As always Term 4 is travelling at speed. Some of you have already had the opportunity to come into school - whether it’s been for Stay and Play with our Early Years, Exhibition Kick-Off with the Y6 team or Learner-led assemblies. There are plenty more chances to come too, from Year Group Mini-Exhibitions and Swim-Fest to Music Ensembles, just to name a few.
The importance of the home-school relationship can not be underestimated - our teams have talked a little about this in their News From The Year Groups. Research consistently shows that when parents take an active interest in their child’s learning, it has a profound impact on their academic success and emotional well-being.
When parents and teachers work together as partners, children benefit from consistent encouragement, support, and guidance both at school and at home. Many of you will have heard me talk about how proud we are of the diverse and vibrant community we have, and we believe that fostering strong home-school connections is essential for nurturing each child's potential.
Simply remaining curious about your child’s learning is all you need to do - talk to your child about their school day and show genuine interest in what they are learning. Your involvement not only reinforces the value of education, but it also helps your child feel supported and understood in every aspect of their learning journey.
I encourage you to take some time over the mini-break to enjoy some family fun, play a game or two, watch a movie, take a walk - laugh together.
Happy Labour Day
Ms Fiona
Head of Primary
In Nursery, we recognise that strong home–school connections are at the heart of a successful and happy learning experience. When children see their families actively involved in their school life, it nurtures their confidence, strengthens their sense of belonging, and deepens their enthusiasm for learning. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support and involvement of our Nursery families, who play an essential role in each child’s development and well-being.
Our termly Stay and Play sessions are a highlight for children and adults. They offer families the chance to enter the learning environment, explore activities together, and observe the creativity, collaboration, and joy shaping our daily routines. Our much-loved Mystery Guest sessions, provide another opportunity for family members to share stories, hobbies, and talents, which always ignites great excitement and curiosity for our learners.
Shared experiences with families are more than moments of fun; they are meaningful opportunities to strengthen our community and celebrate our learning journey together. Thank you for being such an essential part of Nursery life. We feel truly fortunate to learn, grow, and explore alongside you and your children.
Our learning space has been buzzing with excitement! We recently wrapped up our termly Stay and Play sessions, and what a joyful time it was. Thank you to all the families who joined us. It was heartwarming to see the learners so proud to share their learning spaces and routines with you. The energy, laughter, and curiosity during those sessions reminded us just how powerful home-school connections can be.
We have also had some wonderful Mystery Guest visits that have brought extra smiles to our Monday afternoons. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet, we would love to welcome you in for a surprise visit! Our Kindergarten Garden continues to thrive as well, and it has been lovely seeing families get involved in caring for our growing plants.
There is still so much to look forward to this term! We are especially excited to invite you to our Kindergarten Assemblies, a special celebration of the learner’s growth, creativity, and confidence.
KP/KR Assembly – Thursday 23 May, 8.40am, in the Auditorium.
KG/KB Assembly – Thursday 30 May, 8.40am, in the Auditorium.
These assemblies are always a highlight of the year and a wonderful way to bring our community together. We look forward to seeing you there, cheering the learners on!
Kindergarten is a time of tremendous growth, and the partnership between home and school plays such an important role in that journey. Whether you’re helping out on a class trip, popping in as a mystery guest, sending in a postcard for our Journeys Unit of Inquiry, or simply chatting with your child about their day, your support matters. Thank you for being such engaged and enthusiastic members of our learning community. We feel so lucky to have such a supportive group of families walking alongside us this year.
We value the strong partnership between home and school. In Year 1, we've seen first-hand how meaningful parent involvement enhances the learning experience and creates lasting memories for our learners. From field trips to mini exhibitions, class assemblies, and the hugely successful Sustainable Christmas Fair, every opportunity for parents to engage has been a celebration of growth and connection. The joy on learners’ faces when they share their learning with you is truly special. These shared experiences build confidence, deepen understanding, and foster a genuine love for learning.
We encourage families to continue participating in morning drop-offs and spending time in the classroom to help settle into the day. As we explore our current Unit of Inquiry on celebrations, we invite you to contribute your own cultural stories, photos, or traditions. Our diverse community is a rich resource, and we love learning from you. Whether it’s joining a lesson, sharing a tradition, or simply being present, your involvement helps make learning relevant and meaningful. Together, we make a powerful team in supporting our learners’ growth and curiosity!
The Year 2 team hugely appreciates the strong connections between home and school, recognising that your involvement plays a crucial role in your child's success and well-being. Your support, encouragement, and engagement in their learning journey creates a powerful partnership that truly makes a difference. Throughout the year, we've seen wonderful examples of this collaboration, including field trips to Sims Market and Sungei Buloh, attending previous mini-exhibitions for the 'Who we are' and 'How we express ourselves' units, participating in our Family Maths Day, and even joining our recent Time Zone calls with family members around the world. We are so encouraged when families explore these avenues and connect with us.
A fantastic upcoming opportunity to witness your child's learning firsthand is our 'How the world works' and 'How we organise ourselves' Mini-Exhibition in Week 9! This event will showcase the learning journey developed during their recent units of inquiry. It's a wonderful chance to celebrate their achievements and engage in meaningful conversations.

At Nexus we highly value the connection with our families, between home and school. This strengthens relationships and enhances each child's learning journey and school experience. This support provides your child with opportunities to grow and celebrate their learning with you. When children feel this connection, they are excited to be an open minded risk taker, and feel a sense of belonging to our community.
We have appreciated the involvement of parents on our day trips, including Marina Barrage and the Science Centre trip last week. We know that we are unable to take everyone along, however please know that we are grateful for your offers. Thank you so much.
Learner led conferences and mini-exhibitions are always a festive time of celebration. We were overwhelmed by the attendance of parents at our Sharing the Planet Nex Talks. Learners really did rise to the occasion when sharing with you.
Our homeroom assemblies are also another opportunity for connections to be strengthened. We have already had four classes and 4G will present on 30 May.

This term, Year 5 learners have been building connections across subjects through creativity, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving.
In our new Unit of Inquiry, How We Express Ourselves, learners are exploring how creative actions can raise awareness about global issues. They began the unit by taking part in a range of creative workshops, from drama and photography to stop-motion animation, collaging, documentary making, and sustainable city design using Minecraft. To support learning at home, learners have also been provided with a UOI Home Learning Grid offering creative tasks linked to the UN Global Goals.
In Maths, learners have been applying their understanding of financial literacy through a budgeting challenge, designing their own theme parks within a set budget. In Language Arts, they have started developing persuasive writing techniques and are now applying these skills to create brochures advocating for a Global Goal.
We really value the connection between home and school. It was wonderful to see so many families supporting 5G learners at their recent assembly, and we look forward to welcoming 5W parents to their assembly in the coming weeks. Your support plays a big part in helping our learners grow in confidence and pride in their achievements.
We are excited for the weeks ahead as learners continue to express their ideas, take action, and celebrate their growth.
Key Upcoming Dates for Year 5:
Tuesday 6 May – Botanic Gardens Trip | 8:30 AM–12:00 PM
Thursday 8 May – Primary SwimFest | 8:40–10:40 AM
Over the past few weeks, our Year 6 learners have embarked on the exciting journey of the PYP Exhibition. They've dedicated considerable time to introspective thinking, identifying their passions and formulating focused lines of inquiry to steer their exploration. Collaborative groups have formed based on shared interests, and learners have developed essential communication skills by learning to write formal emails to connect with mentors and external experts.
The learners are now fully immersed in the vital 'finding out' stage of their inquiry. This involves dedicated research, where they are actively seeking information from various sources. Crucially, they are using this research not just to gather facts, but to think more deeply about their chosen topics, analyse information critically, and formulate increasingly insightful questions. This stage is fundamental in building a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding that will underpin their exhibition. The learners are demonstrating great enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity as they delve into their research, laying the groundwork for meaningful learning and impactful presentations.
