From our Heads of

Primary & Secondary

Congratulations to our IBDP graduating cohort who out performed their target grades

Dear Parents and Guardians

Welcome to our new academic year. It has been wonderful to welcome existing and new learners on campus and be able to mix groups and return to largely pre-COVID teaching and learning all be it wearing masks. Thank you to all of you who attended Welcome Evening, it was so nice to have parents back on campus and hear your comments about our warm and friendly teachers.

We have had a great start in Primary with homeroom groups creating their essential agreements, taking tours of the school, building learning focussed relationships and getting started on their first Units of Inquiry. It's been a real highlight to see learners being able to play with one another without zone restrictions at breaks and lunch times. Seesaw is up and running and we hope you have had a chance to read the notifications and see the posts created by your homeroom teacher.

Secondary kicked off with two full days of learner induction to help build those all important relationships and help learners find their way around campus and their new learning spaces. They heard from our local community police on the latest scams and how to protect themselves and learnt more about the curriculum they will study and the support that is available for their wellbeing throughout their journey at Nexus. In addition to this they were guided through the IT systems we use and we hope you will all use Canvas as a window into your child's learning journey and the parent portal in Engage to see the recommendations and concerns and reports for your child.

We have changed Secondary school tutoring this year, creating small tutor groups to better support home school communication and relationships. Secondary learners will still be taught by specialist teachers, moving around the building to specialist learning spaces in their teaching groups which are different to their tutor groups. Please contact tutors for any wellbeing or social and emotional issues and please contact your child's subject teacher for any academic concerns.

Thanks you for your patience as we have finalised timetables, they will be available to view from over the weekend.

We look forward to an exciting and positive year ahead.

Best Wishes

Ms Fiona and Dr Heather
