The Primary Music Ensembles concert took place in our auditorium on Thursday 2nd June. Our ukulele groups, percussion club, singing stars, orchestra and choir took part in this wonderful display of songs that included movie hits, world music and pop classics.
We are so proud of all our young musicians that were able to come together and perform in this presentation of the songs that they had learnt in our music ensemble CCA programme.
We hope to have many more learners take part next year as we open up even more events and concerts!
If you would like to view the performance, some informal footage was taken by our AV team in the auditorium. Please feel free to share this link with your family and friends.
Our Secondary Orchestra took to the stage alongside the Senior Chamber ensemble, Secondary Strings and Secondary Wind Band on Wednesday 25th May. It was lovely to have our older learners showcase their talents and the concert even included some of our high achieving musicians performing solos.
Please feel free to share with your family and friends this informal video captured by our Theatre AV team.
The concert was led by Mr Fordham who has been working alongside the Secondary orchestra since he started at Nexus 6 years ago. Under his direction they have led many concerts and even reverted to an online orchestra during lockdown. I would like to personally thank Andrew for all his dedicated and inspiration over the past 6 years. We wish you all the best in your role as Head of Visual and Performing Arts at Nord Anglia Bratislava.
As part of MADD week some of our Y7-9 learners participated in a Chinese Drumming workshop. The morning session was filled with lots of 'crash and bangs' and so much fun was had by all. The workshop was driven by the learners ideas and rhythms that they created and shared with the group, these were then compiled into a routine, dance and movement then added. As a result Mr Duncan invited one of the classes to be the Grand Opening Act for the World Scholars Cup.
The end result was a pretty spectacular performance. Our AV Theatre team managed to capture this on camera. Please feel free to share this with family and friends. Chinese Drumming starts approx 21 minute - look out for the red lighting!
Each Friday morning the NEXUS community have been welcomed to school to the sounds of beautiful music. Whether this be Nursery and Kindergarden pianists, IGCSE musicians or other fantastically inspirational NEXUS musicians. It has been a great way to kick start everyones day and share some musical spirit each Friday.
There have been so many learners participating this term that it is too much to share everyones names however if it was you please give yourself a pat on the back for displaying such confidence and for being a risk taker. These informal opportunities help build basic performing skills as well as aiding confidence. All of the Musical Maestros have been well received; thank you to our community that stopped to watch on your way into school we hope we brightened your day!
Below are a few snap shots taken this term.
To celebrate the end of MADD week Y7-9 participated in a MADD (Music, Art, Drama and Dance) competition. Learners pre-selected their area of choice to work in for the morning and after being provided with a brief they set to work. Music had to select a song and form a band, Drama had to create a 5 minute script and sketch to perform, Art worked in pairs to create a collaborative art piece (this can be viewed by Learner Services) and Dance choreographed a piece to 1 minute of music.
Lots of fun was had by everyone as they had to navigate working with new people, select leaders, take risks and work with confidence and collaboration. The entire morning they all had to consider the Attitudes to Learning and bring these skills to the forefront of their creativity.
The whole of Y7-9 then came together in the auditorium to present what they had created and celebrate the ARTs. A huge congratulation to house Api (red house) for winning the first ever MADD House Competition.
