Teachers as well as employers desire students to not only learn various practices but also understand how to apply these practices in various contexts. Asking students to demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter is critical to the learning process. Today’s students need to know not only the basic reading and arithmetic skills, but also skills that will allow them to face a world that is continually evolving. They then must be able to think critically, to analyze and to make inferences using these skills. It is imperative that students be able to put into practice what they have learned in the classroom.
