Band
Thanks for showing interest in the band portion of Freshman Cabaret 2023!
The band is a small but essential part of Freshman Cabaret, which accompanies all of the singing numbers throughout the show. We're going to cover a lot of genres with out program this year. We cover a lot of genres in our program this year, from Modern Rock, Alternative, to Musical Theater. That being said, we'll almost always be playing in a 4-piece rock style unit (Piano, Drums, Guitar, and Bass) with the occasional solo instrument (Violin, Tenor Sax, and the like) mixed in.
Auditions:
Please prepare yourself to play a short piece of your choice. At the audition, you will play your piece.
Callbacks:
Band callbacks are unlikely, and may only happen if we have multiple people auditioning for each instrument. It will be a short session where you’ll sight-read a piece from the program with the band leaders. Don’t worry about how well you play, since this is to see your work ethic, not your skill. It will help us determine which songs to give to who.
Rehearsals:
Please keep in mind the following guidelines so we’ll be ready for anything the show throws at us!
Be Respectful: The band will be separate from the rest of the cast and production team for much of the earlier rehearsals, but you are still expected to be respectful of the other directors and performers.
Be Prepared: Have your sheet music, instrument, and a pencil in case you need to make markings.
Be Present: We’re a small team working toward a big goal. Let’s make the most of the short time we have together and get work done. This means arriving promptly for rehearsal (or contacting us ASAP if you will be late/have an emergency conflict), and not using your phone without permission.
Practice: We cover a good amount of material over the 2 month rehearsal process, so we’ll break up the workload across that time. But this will only work if you’re practicing at home in addition to weekly rehearsals. Individual practice is also a time-commitment!
