Acting Auditions

Hi everyone! Thank you so much in showing interest in participating in the acting portion of Freshman Cabaret 2023! For your audition, we would like you to prepare a short monologue around 60 to 90 seconds long, that should be memorized. You can find a monologue online or if you are having trouble finding one you can use one of the ones we supplied at the back of the audition packet. If you decide to pick your own monologue, please bring in a copy of the monologue for your audition so that we can cue you in if needed. Also, you can choose whatever type of monologue you want, but the skits in Freshman Cabaret are comedic so it’s a good idea to choose a comedic monologue. If you are also auditioning for singing, you will perform your song at the same time.

Callbacks

If you are called back for a skit, it is because we want to see if you would fit the role of a specific part. Once the callbacks list goes up, if you got called back your name will be under the skit you got called back for. The scripts for the skits will not be available ahead of time because we would like you to do a cold reading. This means we will ask you to read for a character without having seen the script beforehand. We may ask you to read for multiple parts in one skit. Good luck and try your best!

Rehearsals

For regular rehearsals, we have a few major rules:

• Make sure that you are always being respectful of the other actors, directors, stage managers, faculty advisors and anyone else who may be in the room at the time. This really helps create a positive environment and helps the rehearsals go much smoother.

• Always be present during rehearsals. That includes being on time and ready to work as well as focusing during rehearsals and not doing other things or talking with your friends.

• Be prepared for the rehearsal. This means bringing your script and a pencil and having practiced so we can move on from what we did last week.

• No cell phones. It makes it so much easier to concentrate and focus during rehearsals when people are not going on their phones, and work gets done much faster.

• Don’t hesitate to ask any questions! It is always great to ask questions about a line or blocking and we are happy to help
