ABOUT THE EISJ COUNCIL
The Parsons Paris EISJ Council serves as a forum for mediation and dialogue, fostering positive community building and caring practices in the school. We provide a point of contact for students, faculty and staff who are encountering issues connected to equity and inclusion in their activities at the school. In so doing, we seek to foster an environment where students can flourish through an inclusive and empathetic approach to teaching and learning. The Council seeks to collaborate with partners across the university such the Student Council, Dean’s Office and every Department (academic as well as administrative), to strengthen our community so that our values are evident in the ways we learn, teach, create, gather, research, engage and operate.
Contact the EISJ Council at parsonspariseisj@newschool.edu, or reach out directly to any of the council members (see below).
NEW GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
We value your voice, as a member of our community. In order to provide transparency for students, staff and faculty and clarify procedures, we have created simple guidelines on how to register a complaint at the school. Students, faculty and staff who want to remain anonymous have the right to do so.
If you have an EISJ related grievance you have two options:
Option a complainant comes forward to the EISJ but remains anonymous and complaint is registered according to the procedure. No personal details relating to the complainant are shared with anyone outside of the EISJ council.
Option b complainant comes forward to the EISJ as a named individual and the complaint is investigated according to the procedure.

I’ve been a longtime supporter of the SOS Helpline, which trains volunteers to staff their English-language listening line. They do twice-annual used book sales to raise funds, and hold regular informational meetings for potential volunteers.
WICE
WICE `` Where Internationals Connect in English” is an anglophone cultural organization that’s been around since 1978. They offer courses and programs ranging from Visual arts to Food and Wine, and Languages. WICE has a wonderful work environment and gives you a great amount of flexibility and many opportunities to meet new people as a volunteer.
Serve the City Paris
Serve the City Paris is part of a global movement of English-speaking volunteers that help the people in cities who are in need, focused on helping asylum seekers, refugees, the homeless and underprivileged foreigners in Paris. Volunteers help with food distribution, English lessons, social engagement and other activities in a kind and light-spirited environment.
The American Hospital of Paris
The non-profit American Hospital of Paris (in the suburb of Neuilly) is always looking for volunteers (they do state that you should speak both English and French).

This charity assists English-speaking people in France being treated for cancer. Volunteers are trained to support those with cancer and their families and caregivers, and also to help with fundraising events.
English Pour Tout Le Monde
An association based in Paris offering free English learning opportunities to people in precarious situations who are frequently excluded from society. “With the help of our volunteers, we provide group English classes and extra-curricular activities. We work in partnership with other associations who assist refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and people experiencing difficulties.” English-teaching experience is helpful, but not required.
ChangeNOW
“The world’s largest gathering of solutions for the planet with 1000 solutions, 400 speakers from 120 countries, and 800 investors” brings together changemakers for the planet. Even though the event itself is usually three days in May, volunteers are needed well in advance and sometimes after to help with everything from communications to welcoming VIPs (in 2022 it was Jane Goodall). The official language of the event is English, but as the organizers are French it does help to at least understand some French. It’s a great way to meet new people, network and build your resumé if you’re new to Paris!
When his family returned in France from two years of expatriation in the United States, Antoine Gentil noticed that his two little sisters, then very young, came back perfectly bilingual. Understanding that the best way to learn a foreign language is to learn it at a very young age, the idea came to him quite naturally. Why not offer a language immersion service at home for children? Antoine Gentil (ESSEC BBA-EPSCI) met Julien Viaud (HEC Montreal) during their master's degree "Innovate and undertake" at ESCP-Europe. Together, they set up this project and found the Speaking-Agency company in 2009, later named Baby-Speaking. They surrounded themselves with experts in recruitment, as Maria Kihlstedt, lecturer in psycholinguistics at the French National Scientific Center, and John Herbstritt, specialized in the rhetoric of language at the American University of Berkeley. Based on Maria Kihlstedt's research and John Herbstritt's experience, they developed innovative pedagogical tools and training for their future Language Ambassadors.
In 2013, in response to demand from many parents, Speaking-Agency began to expand its services, and, in addition to childcare, added home language courses for all ages with bilingual or native speakers. Then in 2018, Garde-Active was born. The goal is to offer childcare inspired by Montessori’s pedagogy. The nannies can then carry out manual and creative activities with the little ones, to stimulate their imagination and make them more autonomou
