Here in the village of Whakauka we are going to be exploring Conservation and why it is important we protect and care for our Native Ngaro Huruhuru (Bees) within the context of Design Technology.
Bees make more than just honey. Around 1/3 of what you eat is pollinated by bees and without them, these foods would simply cease to exist.
Bees face a number of threats including parasites, pathogens, pesticides and malnutrition as well as poor beekeeping practices and climate change.
Here in Aoetearoa, New Zealand we have 28 native species of bee, 27 of which are endemic which means they can only be found here which makes them especially rare and important to protect.
Use these slides as a reference during lessons to access worksheets and websites used throughout this project.
You will be exploring how to build fantastic bee hotels, building models and templates as well as information posters to support why we are working on this conservation project.
These are your assessment slides which will be shared with you via Classroom at the start of the term.
You can also access them directly by clicking on the file opposite. This will open a new tab where you can make a copy of this file and save it to Drive.
Make sure you keep these Slides up to date with your completed tasks and assignments throughout the term.
