Tāporowhita (compass) offers you the opportunity to learn how to use the technical drawing tools to produce multiple views of a 3D drawing known as Orthographic Projections. Typically, you would draw the front, end and plan elevations. As an example, in the industry, architects would create these drawings of their final design before sharing them with both their client and the builders who would then use them when building the structure.
As with previous skills, you will complete a range of mini projects and will be given feedback from your teacher on how you can make improvements.
Be patient and practice as often as you can to ensure you achieve to the best of your ability.

Orthographic Projection drawings require the same set of tools to be used as with Paraline Drawings in order to draw them correctly. You will need to ensure you have the following tools available:
T - Square
Set Square | Tāhāngai
2H Pencil | Pene Rākau
Eraser | ūkui
Ruler | Rūri
Compass | Tāporowhita
Ensure your tools are cleaned or wiped down using the wipes in the classroom prior to starting a new drawing. This removes graphite and will stop the tools from leaving smudges on your paper. New sheets of paper can be found on the shelf at the front of the classroom.
This introductory tutorial video takes you through the process of using the drawing tools to draw a simple shape in 3rd Angle Orthographic Projection.
Your class teacher will guide you through more complex techniques as you complete the activities listed below.
