Welcome to the village of Kōrero Nehe
Fashion Technology is the creative use of fabric and/or fibres to solve a need or opportunity. Textiles play an important role in our society to protect, care, provide comfort and to appeal to our aesthetic tastes, across a range of environmental and social contexts.
Here in the village of Kōrero Nehe we are going to be exploring ancient knowledge and skills still used in Fashion today. Over the span of a term, you gain new abilities and understandings through investigating and responding to two complex projects through project-based learning (see below).
Along the way you will build strong, learning relationships with your peers and kaiako following our whakatauki:
Whiria te tangata
Weaving is the craft of forming a fabric by interlacing threads. Weaving can be found deep in the history of many cultures and is acknowledged as one of the oldest surviving crafts in the world.
For your first project, you will create your own, woven tapestry piece on a frame loom.

Hand embroidery is the craft of embellishing cloth by hand with needle and thread.
For your second project, you will create a 3D self-portrait to contribute to our Year 9 community. A self-portrait is a portrait, or representation, that a textile-artist produces of themselves through stitch.
