Task:

After the session follow these steps:

  1. Choose one resource to use for measuring different objects in your house (this could be a book, an iPad, a pillow). This will be your unit of measurement.

  2. Estimate an item you want to measure and record your estimation in your chart in your Maths Google docs

  3. Use your unit of measurement to find how much area an object within your house has. Record your finding in the results section of your chart and compare it to your estimation!

Think about your estimations and results. Were the recordings the same or different? Why do you think that is? What do you think you will do differently next time you have to measure an area?

English Task:

Learning Intention:

I am learning identify sentences

Success Criteria:

I can:

  • Recognise a sentence type

  • Record a sentence type

Whole Class Explanation:

Continuing our Webex session from yesterday we will be finding different sentence types in a text. We will be finding simple, compound and complex sentences.

Remember:

  • Simple sentences: Is a complete thought - A complete thought is called an 'independent clause'. It has a subject (who or what it's about) and a verb (what it is doing).

        • Example: I swam in the pool.

  • Compound sentences: It joins two simple sentences with a conjunction such as 'and'.

        • Co-coordinating Conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

        • Example: Frank went to the shops and he got some ice-cream.

  • Complex sentences: It has an independent clause, and a dependent clause. A dependent clause means it doesn't make sense by itself.

        • Subordinating Conjunctions: if, since, as, when, although, while, after, before, until, because

        • Example: I went to the park after finishing my work.
