Weekly Task Grid: Week 1

English Task: (To be completed and submitted after Webex)

Learning Intention:

I am learning to write sentences

Success Criteria:

I can:

  • Add simple sentences into my writing

  • Add compound sentences into my writing

  • Add complex sentences into my writing

Whole Class Explanation:

Last term we looked at the three different types of sentences. Today we are going to spend a little bit more time on the 3 sentence types.

To start off, we are going to reflect on what makes up a sentence! Every sentence needs to be a complete thought. Often, this means they need a subject (a thing, or a person that the sentence is about) and a verb (something that the subject is doing).

sentences.pptx

Task:

Think about something that you did during the holidays. Maybe you helped mum or dad cook, went for a walk or played with your siblings. You decide!

Your task is to write 4 simple sentences about that topic.

Once you have written 4 simple sentences. Choose two of your sentences and join them together using a coordinating conjunction to create a compound sentence! (See picture to the right).

Remember: Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.

Example:

My simple sentences:

  • I went for a walk with my dog.

  • It was a sunny day.

  • He loves going on long walks.

  • We were very tired.

Joining 2 of my sentences with a comma and a coordinating conjunction to make a compound sentence:

  • I went for a walk with my dog, for it was a sunny day.

Task:

Think about something that you did during the holidays. Maybe you helped mum or dad cook, went for a walk or played with your siblings. You decide!

Once you have written 6 simple sentences. try to join some of your sentences using a coordinating conjunction to create a compound sentence! (See picture above in green group).

Next, try to see if you can create a complex sentence using a subordinating conjunction (see picture below). Try a few different sentences. To test if it is a complex sentence, see if you can break the sentence into a simple sentence, and see what is left. Would it make sense by itself? If it doesn't it's likely a complex sentence.

Remember: Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.

Example:

My simple sentences:

  • On the holidays I went for a run.

  • It was a sunny day.

  • Running is a fantastic hobby.

  • Running allows you to clear your mind.

  • It is is one of the most therapeutic things you can do.

  • Running makes me feel happy.

Joining 2 of my sentences with a comma and a coordinating conjunction to make a compound sentence:

  • Running is a fantastic hobby, and it makes me feel happy.

My complex sentence:

  • Running is one of the most therapeutic things you can do because it allows you to clear your mind.

Mathematics Task:

Learning Intention:

  • I am learning about multiplication

Success Criteria:

I can:

  • Record rows and columns

  • Show repeated addition

  • Show groups in an array

Whole Class Explanation:

Last term we began to learn about arrays. An array is a set that shows equal groups in rows and columns. We use arrays to help us to group numbers and to solve multiplication problems. Today we are going to continue to practice these.

Task: Look at the example below to learn how to record how many rows and columns an array has. Remember to record this in your maths book or in your maths google document. Once you have looked at the example, continue to record the rows and columns of other arrays below.

Example

Firstly look at the array.

Secondly record how many rows in the array. Remember rows are from left to right.

There are 3 rows in this array.

Lastly record how many columns in the array. Remember columns go up and down.

There are 3 columns.

How many rows and columns are in this array?

How many rows and columns are in this array?

How many rows and columns are in this array?

Task: Click on the link below to access a Roll Dice page on the internet. Roll the dice twice and record this as an array. Once you have created your array, record this as repeated and as a multiplication equation. Remember, the first dice you roll are your rows and your second dice roll are columns. Use the example to help you understand your task.

Click on this to enter the Roll Dice website. If the link isn't working, use these steps below to help you;

Example

The first dice roll was 3.

This is how many rows I need to record. Remember rows move from left to right.

The second dice roll was 2.

This is how many columns I need to record. Remember columns move up and down

I know need to draw my array with 3 rows and 2 columns.

I need to record this as repeated addition. Use your rows to help you record this.

Answer: 2 + 2 + 2 = 6

I now need to record this as a multiplication array. Remember the first numbers is your rows and second is your columns.

Answer: 3 x 2 = 6

QUEST Task:

  • Learning Intention:

I am learning to access my prior knowledge

  • Success Criteria:

I can:

  • Record my knowledge of games

  • Describe features of games I know

Whole Class Explanation:

Today we are accessing our prior knowledge about games that we have played. Prior knowledge means information that we already know. Think about games that you may at home, or have played at a friends house or even at school. Games such as video games and board games. Brainstorm for 5 minutes and think about all the games that you know about.

Task: Think about all the types of games that you have played. Once you have thought about this, record a list of all the games that you have played and the features of these games. Remember, features are important parts of the game that make it unique and special. They are options that let us do many things. Remember you can record this anyway you want. The example below is a list that is written using Dot Points., you can choose to record on Google Slides of Docs or in your Quest Book.

Example

Here is a list of all the games that I have played;

Fortnite

  • A multiplayer game - this means that you can play with other people online

  • Action Game - this means I can run, jump and build things

  • The player who survives or team wins the game.

  • You can win new outfits to wear and dancing emotes.

Checkers

  • There are checkers that we use to move around the board

  • A checker can only move forwards.

  • Each player must have their checkers on 1 particular colour

  • You can jump over a players checkers and remove it from the game.

  • If you reach the end of the other players board you checker becomes a "king" and can move backwards and forwards.
