Netflix is a global company, with a diverse member base, which is why the content we produce reflects that: global perspectives and global stories. As we grow globally, we know that we must have the most talented workforce. We look to our supplier partners to provide diverse backgrounds and experiences to support our innovation and creativity. Through diverse voices, our workforce is part of the storytelling at Netflix.
We also understand that inclusion plays just as much of a role in our success as having a diverse team. Inclusion is about authentically recognizing, understanding, and appreciating differences, and being able to connect across these differences by being mutually adaptive rather than insisting that everyone be, think, and act the same. Our goal is to create an environment where people of different backgrounds can contribute at their highest level and where their differences can make a positive difference for Netflix.
Netflix is a safe place for our supplier partners to submit diverse candidates of all backgrounds and profiles. All workers will be treated with kindness, dignity, and respect.
Inclusion and representation are important to us at Netflix. We want to create stories, images, and experiences that represent the full breadth of human experience. We want to entertain the world, so we need to mirror the world.
In short: this is important to us and we hope it’s important to you.
We recognize that Inclusion is a journey and while some of us are likely at different stages on that journey, this is just the beginning of establishing how we can be better together. We do want to shift the conversation into action; one that is informed and measured by data when possible. That means linking arms with our supplier partners to make both the relationships and representation stronger.
We acknowledge that this type of change will take time and the current climate will likely make it challenging, but with a joint commitment to change, we believe over time, we can collectively achieve our goal of truly understanding, celebrating, and embracing our differences to unlock our potential.
Most people understand that diversity refers to the mix of different cultures, identities, experiences and perspectives that exist among human beings and in workplaces. Inclusion is different—it’s about creating environments where people of different backgrounds and cultural experiences feel expected, reflected, and respected. Indeed, in order to realize the power of increased diversity, there has to be inclusion. But what does that mean?
Put simply, an inclusive workplace is one where employees feel expected, reflected, and respected.
Expected not just to be there, but to be the one who is brilliant, the one with the creative idea, the one who is the leader—regardless of any real or perceived difference.
Reflected means that you see people like you on all levels of the organization, and that the company’s policies and practices recognize and take into consideration the differences among us (e.g., religion, family responsibilities, gender identity, physical abilities).
Respected means that you are able to come to work and be treated with dignity and given equal opportunity so that you are able to thrive. Inclusion means having a sense of belonging and feeling like you don’t have to hide or cover salient aspects of your identity or culture, which can be exhausting and frustrating. We know from personal experience and research that people don’t perform as well or don’t stay at companies when they feel they can’t be themselves.
When done right, we create a workplace where everyone can thrive and succeed.
Increase Representation:
Strengthening diversity within the contingent workforce by partnering with our suppliers to actively increase the hiring of underrepresented talent.
Our Supplier Partners should demonstrate alignment with our commitment to bringing more inclusion, equity, and representation to our contingent workforce. It starts with finding and submitting diverse and underrepresented candidates from marginalized communities. We see you as being integral to our inclusion journey and believe everyone must do their part to see significant improvement. We encourage you to incorporate more inclusive efforts and methods into your recruitment practices.
Because this is a joint effort, we ask you to keep us accountable for upholding this commitment. We encourage you to have more conversations about diversity and inclusion with us. For instance, if you see a job description that does not use inclusive language and terms, let us know! We are not perfect but with your help, we will get better over time.
