Ann is one of Canada's most prominent volunteer leaders in the not-for-profit sector, a well-known advocate in the areas of youth, education, health and the arts, and an accomplished fundraiser. She is passionate about continuous learning and works tirelessly to ensure the highest possible quality of life for future generations.

  • As Chancellor Emeritus at the University of Calgary, Ann has long been a champion for the cause of advanced education and research, erving as Chancellor from 1994 to 1998 after having been a member of the university's Board of Governors for 10 years.

  • Ann is a trustee of the $400 million Killam Trusts which supports post-graduate students, leading professors and scholars at Canadian universities. She is a director of the Gairdner Foundation which honours and rewards outstanding biomedical scientists.

  • Ann Chairs the Calgary Health Trust, the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre, and she is Honourary Chair of the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute.

  • She is a director of the Calgary Stampede Foundation and has served as the Chair of the Calgary Foundation, the Chair of the City of Calgary Police Interpretive Centre and as a former director of the Banff Centre Foundation. Ann served as Co-Chair of the 2010 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Gala.

  • Ann Co-Chaired a successful campaign to raise $50 million to help build the new state-of-the-art Alberta Children's Hospital and has raised funds for many other organizations including the Famous 5 Foundation.

  • Ann received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1961 and began her teaching career in Regina where she helped establish one of the city's first group homes for troubled youth.

  • Ann's extraordinary contributions have been recognized by numerous awards, including: Honourary Doctor of Laws Degree from the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta, the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Humanitarian Award, the Queen Elizabeth Award, the 125th Confederation of Canada Award and the Alberta Order of Excellence. She is also a Member of the Order of Canada.
