In December 2024, the communities of Roscoe and Livingston Manor approved the merging of their two school districts into the new Rockland Central School District. The district is primarily in the town of Rockland in Sullivan County and includes portions of the towns of Callicoon, Fremont, Neversink and Liberty in Sullivan County; Andes, Colchester and Hancock in Delaware County; and Hardenburgh in Ulster County.
Rockland serves approximately 600 students at its two schools. The Roscoe building serves as Rockland Elementary School (grades pre-kindergarten through 6) and the Livingston Manor building serves as Rockland Middle/High School (grades 7-12).
The district is planning to launch a comprehensive website. Until then, this site will provide updates on the new district.
At its Oct. 7 meeting, the board of education accepted Rockland Central School District Superintendent of Schools John Evans’s resignation for the purpose of retirement. His last day with the district will be Nov. 30, 2025.
The board of education will work with Dr. Robert M. Dufour, Sullivan BOCES district superintendent and chief executive officer, to select and appoint an interim superintendent by Dec. 1, 2025.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Rockland Central School District Board of Education will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Rockland Middle/High School Auditorium at 19 School St. in Livingston Manor
A special meeting with a limited agenda will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the same location.

The Rockland Central School District will conduct its emergency early dismissal drill on Friday, Oct. 10.
Students and staff will be dismissed from school and required to leave the buildings at the following times:
Rockland Elementary School - 11:30 a.m.
Rockland Middle/High School - 11:45 a.m.
The Board of Education of the Rockland School District recognizes its responsibility to adopt a comprehensive District-Wide School Safety Plan and Building-Level Emergency Response plans regarding crisis intervention, emergency response and management.

The Rockland Central School District Board of Education is the official policy-making body of the school district. The board is comprised of seven school district residents elected by voters, and each board member is elected to a three-year term.
