New Grade Book FAQ

Q. Where can I see videos about SchoolTool grade books?

Videos can be viewed by accessing HELP within SchoolTool or by going to one of two links:

• Mindex NEW grade book videos can be viewed HERE .   Enter gradebook at the pw prompt.

• Mindex LEGACY (prior) grade book videos can be viewed HERE.  Enter legacy at the pw prompt.

Q. What does NERIC recommend for transitioning teachers to the new grade book?

A. NERIC recommends starting this process now. Allowing teachers access to Both with either New or Legacy as default will allow them to try out the new grade book before the end of the school year.   All Legacy grading areas, including grade book, will not be part of SchoolTool in the 24-25 school year and beyond.

Q. How do teachers using the New Grade Book get back to Legacy to submit the Descriptor grade screen?

A. Mindex has provided the document to assist teachers in navigating between the New Grade Book and Legacy grading area: HERE. A submit Descriptor Grade screen is expected in the New grading area next school year to coincide with a New Descriptor Grade Book. 

Q. What options does SchoolTool offer for settings to control the new and legacy grade book availability?

A. There are four feature flag choices to provide teacher access (At the District Level - can't be turned on at the building or group level ) to the New grade book that can be found under Maintenance > District > District Options > Grade Book:

1. Always Use Legacy – Teachers will not see anything different and will only have access to the Legacy grade book. This is the default setting.

   1. We recommend you no longer use this option at this time.  

2. Allow User Choice (Default to Legacy) -- Allow teachers to use the New grade book, Legacy grade book, or go back and forth as needed. Teachers will have to choose for themselves to use the New grade book.

3. Allow User Choice (Default to New) – Allow teachers to use the New grade book, Legacy grade book, or go back and forth as needed. Teachers will have to choose for themselves to go back to the Legacy grade book.

4. Always Use New - Teachers will have no access to the Legacy grade book.

1. 1. Not recommended at this time. Mindex allows the ability to move back and forth between New and Legacy grade books (options 2 and 3 above) for a reason. We suggest you only force the New Grade book later in the school year, or in 24-25.

• Please Note: Using HELP located in the upper right of each screen of SchoolTool and the New Grade Book is indeed VERY HELPFUL! It incorporates the videos mentioned above (and no password is needed!)

• Additional Mindex and NERIC documentation with more in-depth details for new users of the SchoolTool grade book will be provided as we all move forward.
