This interactive and informative class will be taking an in-depth look at current adolescent health issues. This course serves as the ultimate guide to help students navigate the challenges and changes of their adolescent years. All students can benefit greatly from the content of this course. Some topics covered include: Critical thinking skills Facts related to drug and alcohol use, along with strategies to resist negative peer pressure and the importance of good decision making. Focus on the importance of a positive self-image and self-confidence. In depths look at the obesity epidemic, including the causes and consequences of obesity. Exploring the importance of nutrition, physical activity and the benefits to student overall health and wellbeing. Examining the unique characteristics of adolescent development (physical, social, emotional, and intellectual.) Abstinence and the importance of self-respect in relationships. The semester 7th grade Healthy You course builds knowledge, skills, and habits for lifelong well‑being through age‑appropriate lessons, interactive activities, and real‑world scenarios. Students explore key topics including the dimensions of wellness (physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and environmental), nutrition and healthy eating, internet safety and digital citizenship, mental and emotional health with stress‑management strategies, alcohol/tobacco/other drugs (ATOD) prevention, healthy relationships and boundaries, and human growth and development including puberty and reproductive health basics. Emphasis is placed on practicing practical skills—analyzing influences such as peers and media, managing oneself for better health through routines and self‑care, using a step‑by‑step decision‑making model, communicating assertively and respectfully, resolving conflicts constructively, and setting realistic, measurable health goals. Students will demonstrate growth through reflections, applied scenarios, and personal health plans so they leave the course able to make informed choices, communicate effectively, and take greater responsibility for their own health.
