Read your source with a pen in your hand. Underline key or interesting points as you read and jot down ideas, questions, and/or your personal reaction in the margin as you read. Take particular notice of things that fit into these categories:
- Facts and statistics
- Underlying ideas or concepts (defining "-isms" or key terms)
- Expert opinions
- Anecdotes
- Author's main point
- Author's biasPotential sources to investigate/research further
- Remaining questions you have after reading
