Overview:
The Self-Design Internship is optional. If you wish to design you own internship, please complete the Self- Design Application on SchooLinks . If you do not self-design, the SIP Committee will place you at an internship site. However, you must complete the “NCHS Senior Internship: Placed by School” application. Self-Design internships offer flexibility, however students must follow specific guidelines and seek approval from the SIP Committee.
All applications are due by Tuesday, January 7th. Please note, failure to submit an application will result in ineligibility for program participation.
Eligibility & Restrictions for Self-Design Internships:
Company/Organization Requirements:
No Family Member as your Supervisor: You cannot intern at a company or organization that is family-owned or where a family member will be the supervisor.
No Current Employment: You cannot intern at a place where you are currently employed.
No Interning for Yourself: Students cannot intern at a company they personally own or run.
In-Person Internships:
30-Mile Radius Limit: For in-person internships, the company or organization must be located within a 30-mile radius of New Canaan.
Transportation Costs: Students are responsible for their own transportation costs to and from the internship site.
Remote Internships:
Remote Work Allowed: Students are permitted to work remotely.
Daily Supervisor Interaction: For remote internships, students must meet with their supervisor at least once a day via video conference.
No Maximum Distance for Remote Internships: Remote internships are not limited by distance.
Supervision Requirements:
Internship supervisor be at least 21 years old.
Internship Size Limit:
No more than 2 students are allowed per self-design internship unless approved by the SIP Committee.
Approval Process for Self-Design Internships:
Existing Companies:
You cannot self-design an internship at a company already listed in the SIP program.
A list of existing companies can be found in your registration email (sent 12/4). Please click on school-provided internships.

Confirmation from Company:
You must receive approval from the company or organization confirming that you will be allowed to intern from May 20th to June 13th, 2025.
Click here for the information you'll need from the company to complete you SIP application, along with program details to share with the company.
Once you submit your application, a copy will automatically be emailed to your sponsor for approval.
Your sponsor must approve your internship via the email they receive from SchooLinks, so it's is best to remind them right after your submission.
Note: The process is not complete until your sponsor approves the application.
SIP Committee Review:
The SIP Committee will review all self-design proposals.
You will be notified of approval.
If your internship is not approved, you will be informed and assigned an alternate internship.
