NCHS Senior Internship Program Overview

Internship Period: May 19 – June 9, 2026
(End date may be extended due to snow days.)
Hours: Approximately 5 days a week for 5 hours per day
Compensation: Unpaid
Location: Must be within a 30-mile radius of New Canaan
Eligibility to Participate in Sports/Extracurriculars: Yes, internships occur during school hours
Mandatory Meetings: December 3 (During Building Blocks), March 17, 2025 & May 18, 2026

Applications will be available on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025
Deadline to apply: Wednesday, January 7th, 2026
Note: If the application is not submitted by the deadline, you will not participate in SIP and you will remain in your classes from May 18-June 9, 2026.
Academic and Graduation Requirements:
Must be passing all courses with good attendance.
Must meet all graduation requirements (academic and otherwise).
Internship Selection Options:
When applying for the NCHS Senior Internship Program, students must complete one of the following two application types:
1. Placed by the School Option
You choose from internships provided by the school.
Requirements:
Internship Selection: You will review a list of available internships and select 15 sites that interest you, ranking them 1-15.
The school will place you at one of your 15 choices.
Internships cannot be with a family member as your supervisor or places where you currently work.
2. Self-Design Option
You create and arrange your own internship with a specific organization or company.
Requirements:
Sponsor Confirmation: Before submitting your SIP application, you must confirm with your sponsor (internship supervisor) that they will host you.
Sponsor Details: Ensure that your sponsor has reviewed the Self-Design Factsheet and provide the following information when submitting your application:
Sponsor’s name, job title, company, email, and phone number, and detailed description of your role.
Approval Required:
All self-designed internships are subject to SIP Committee approval.
Restrictions:
No Family or Current Employers: Internships cannot be with a family member as your supervisor or at places where you currently work.
Existing Program Sites: You cannot self-design an internship at a site that is already part of the NCHS program.
To verify if a site is part of the program, please check your student email (sent on 12/3) and click on the school-provided internships link.
Location: In- person internships must be within a 30 Mile-Radius of New Canaan.
Supervisor Requirements: The supervisor must be at least 21 years old.
Program Requirements:
Meetings & Attendance:
Mandatory meetings must be attended (December 3, March 17 and May 18).
Good attendance is required during the internship (no vacations, college visits, or elective surgeries).
Submit a signed Intern/Parent Contract (Sent out in March)
Journal and Time log Submissions:
Respond to journal questions.
Submit your weekly time log which will be approved by your internship sponsor.
Failure to complete this will result in no credit on the school transcript for the internship.
End-of-Year SIP Reception:
Attend the SIP Reception at the end of the program.
