General Program Information:
Dates: May 19 -June 9, 2026 (End date may extend pending snow days)
Hours: Interns complete 80 hours across four weeks, typically 5 hours per day. The exact schedule will be set by the site supervisor in collaboration with the intern. SIP is designed to take place during school hours (8 AM - 2:30 PM). However, if a site's needs differ, alternative arrangements can be made as long as they are mutually agreed upon by the site supervisor, intern, and the Internship Coordinator.
Unpaid: Students receive academic credit for their participation.
Student Matching: Students will be matched as closely as possible with an internship in their skill and interest areas to ensure a mutually beneficial experience. If you have a particular student in mind, please email me directly to discuss the possibility of them interning with you.
Placement: You will receive an email in the beginning of March with your intern's name. You will then receive another email from the intern and their faculty mentor, introducing themselves.
Student Training: All students attend two mandatory training sessions at NCHS to prepare them for the program. Training topics include professionalism in the workplace, confidentiality, communication skills, and workplace expectations to ensure that students are ready to contribute positively and responsibly at their internship sites.
Host Requirements: Provide interns with a meaningful experience and approve students' weekly internship hours.
Liability: Students are covered under NCPS liability during internship
Why Host a Senior Intern?
Win-Win for Students and Businesses: Hosting a NCHS senior intern offers businesses the chance to collaborate with talented young minds eager to contribute. Interns are matched based on their skills and interests, ensuring that they’re assigned to meaningful projects that align with your company’s goals.
Fresh Perspective and Innovative Ideas: Today’s students are digital natives, well-versed in the latest technologies and marketing trends. By hosting a senior intern, you can tap into their fresh perspectives and innovative thinking, which may uncover new solutions, digital strategies, or creative approaches to projects that your business hadn’t considered.
Strengthen the New Canaan Community: By supporting local students through this internship program, you play a vital role in building a stronger, more connected community. Hosting an intern helps cultivate a pipeline of local talent while deepening relationships between businesses, schools, and families. Your investment goes beyond your business—it contributes to the growth and future success of New Canaan.
Create a Lasting Impact: Offering mentorship to a young, aspiring professional leaves a lasting imprint. Intern hosts play a pivotal role in shaping the career trajectories of their interns, providing them with guidance, support, and real-world experience. The impact you have as a mentor will be remembered long after the internship ends.
