Program Overview:
The Senior Internship Program (SIP) offers NCHS seniors a valuable opportunity to explore future careers through meaningful, hands-on work experiences. During the program, students develop important skills such as communication, problem-solving, time management, and professionalism, all while building confidence in a real-world setting.
Now in its fifteenth year, SIP has become a capstone experience for seniors, providing them with valuable professional work experience while helping them make informed decisions about college majors, career paths, and future opportunities. The program also gives students a sense of independence and responsibility outside the classroom.
Internship Dates:
May 19- June 9, 2026
(End date subject to change pending snow days.)
Work Schedule:
Interns will work approximately 5 days a week for 5 hours per day over four weeks on-site at a business or organization. The exact schedule will be set by the site supervisor in collaboration with the intern. SIP is designed to take place during school hours (8 AM - 2:30 PM). However, if a site's needs differ, alternative arrangements can be made as long as they are mutually agreed upon by the site supervisor, intern, and the Internship Coordinator.
Placement Options:
There are two types of placement options:
Self-Designed Internships- Students create their own internship following specific guidelines.
School-Provided Internships- Students choose from a list of internships offered by the school, ranking their top 15 choices. The school will then place each student at one of their selected sites.
Unpaid:
Students receive academic credit for their participation.
Assignments:
Interns will complete off-site assignments, including:
Self-Reflection Journals
Goal-Setting Worksheets
Time logs
Training Sessions:
Attendance is required at three mandatory training sessions on December 3 (during Building Blocks), March 24 and May 18.
