G/T YouTube Channels

Welcome to G/T YouTube Channels!

(A work in progress)

Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development is REAL, but it's no easy task when teachers have wildly diverse groups. Use the channels below to reach your students where they are.

𝕂-πŸ™πŸš ranking tells you the maturity level of the content. This range is subjective, since some G/T kids can handle the content at a younger age. I am one person, and I'm open to allowing G/T kids to have a wider range of experiences than some teachers may be comfortable with age-wise. Ultimately, you have to be the judge of what's best for your students.

Content is ranked by interest as follows:

πŸ„° = Arts

πŸ„΄ = Engineering

πŸ„· = History

πŸ„» = Language Arts

πŸ„Ό = Math

πŸ…‚ = Science

πŸ…ƒ = Technology

Disclaimer:

I always screen videos before I show them, and you should too. Content is added constantly, so I will never be able to say that any channel will be 100% potty-language-free. That being said, 99% of the time, the channels below and their videos are fine - even if it says it's for higher grades - you just have to screen it as the responsible adult.Click the image for a sample video or the Title Link in the description for the actual channel. Enjoy!

Featured Channel - CCKids

CrashCourseKids is loaded with STEM playlists as part of the CrashCourseNetwork from Vlogbrothers.

Kudo(s):

Emphasizing Claim-Evidence-Reasoning, CCKids has and continuously adds to a wide variety of STEM videos that include a "Big Question," on-level definitions, an "Investigation," and a "Conclusion" that brings it all together.

Huge library of videos.

Warm, friendly host.

Fun animations that answer meaningful questions.

Downside(s):

They continue to employ the sometimes overwhelming fast-talking/no-pause strategy of CrashCourse's videos for older grades, but in an Elementary format. Students may need to pause to process concepts as they flow in a steady stream.

Featured Channel - Numberphile

Numberphile is great for building wonder in MATH! Some of the best maths professors collaborate to bring interesting and curious phenomena to life. Patterns are amazing, and every video from Numberphile puts you in a mindset to observe and question the patterns you see in everyday life. There's something here for every age!

This video on the Monty Hall Problem is a good place to start. It's great for a lesson-starter or an "I wonder" extension for probability.

Kudo(s):

There are some EXCELLENT, well-produced videos to build interest in any topic in math. There are lots and lots of extensions to science.

Downside(s):

It can be hard to search through their huge library of videos to find just what you need. Be prepared to binge a lot of fun math to find what you need.
