Science Electives - Robotics

ROBOTICS ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY

GRADES 9 - 12

SC65 - ½ Science Credit - ½ Year

Do you like to design and build things? In a project-based environment, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and practice valuable coding skills to control your robot. The LabVIEW programming language that you’ll learn is used by professional engineers all over the world!

As an example of some of the interesting STEM projects in this course, you’ll make and program an EKG instrument that will record and analyze your own heartbeat! You’ll even have the opportunity to pilot a drone from your laptop, iPad, or cell phone! Other projects, using LEGOs include the construction and programming of a fully-autonomous vehicle and fully-autonomous robotic arm.

ADVANCED ROBOTICS ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY

SC85 - ½ Science Credit - ½ Year

Prerequisite: SC65

This semester-long STEM course builds on the idea that programming can be fun and useful. You’ll learn how to write code for controlling your robots using RobotC, which is in the C++ family of programming languages. You’ll also be using your programming skills to write code to control your virtual robot in a virtual gaming environment. Finally, you’ll try your skills at writing your own code that will pilot a drone. This course prepares you today for tomorrow’s expanding STEM career opportunities!
