International Baccalaureate (IB) Program

International Baccalaureate Program/IB

Nauset is one of 16 high schools in Massachusetts that offers the IB Program,  a comprehensive curriculum with an international focus. Colleges and universities internationally recognize the efforts and achievements of IB students, and successful IB Diploma and Certificate candidates often are given special consideration by university admissions because the successful IB student will be a successful college student. Additionally, the IB curriculum provides students with the opportunity to earn college credit for course work completed in high school. The IB Program, while demanding, is open to any junior or senior student at Nauset Regional High School.

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. IB Learners across the world are encouraged to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners. IB learning is student-centered and emphasizes inquiry, deeper understanding, critical thinking and reflection, intercultural awareness, discussion, writing, and research.

At Nauset, students may choose to pursue the full IB Diploma or enroll in multiple IB courses for IB course certificates for college credit (dependent upon final scores and university policies). Unlike AP scores, based on results of one exam at the end of the year, IB courses offer diverse assessment requirements, involving written, oral, and exam components completed over two years. All IB students must take the IB exam in each course at the end of their senior year.
