Graduation Requirements & Course Selection
Graduation Requirements and Grade Point Average (GPA) Information
All students must select seven (7) full year courses or the equivalent.
This Program of Studies offers some of the information you will need to plan your high school program. It is best to evaluate your interests, aptitudes and abilities when selecting courses in rounding out your program. This should be done cooperatively with your parents, teachers and guidance counselor.
This site contains descriptions of courses by department. The number below the course title is the computer course number. To the right of the course number is the unit credit for the course. If you select any semester electives for half credit, please make certain to sign up for two (2), one in each semester.
AVAILABILITY OF COURSES DESCRIBED IN THE PROGRAM OF STUDIES
The NRHS Program of Studies contains a wide variety of courses, some of which are limited in enrollment.
Limited enrollment courses/sections may be closed before enrollments become too high.
Preference will be given to seniors and juniors.
Guidance counselors will assist students in making alternative selections when courses are cancelled or closed. Actual class sizes typically reflect a range above and below the guidelines and may vary considerably among courses.
Conflicts in the schedule of individual students may occur. It is, therefore, advisable to indicate and prioritize options when planning your schedule.
All students are guaranteed of being able to enroll in required courses and earn sufficient credits for graduation over the course of their four-year high school experience.
COURSE SELECTION PROCESS
Teachers will be making course recommendations on X2. Students should review these recommendations with their parents and have a discussion with the teacher if necessary. Students should log into X2, navigate to "My Info" and select "Requests" on the left tab. Here they will confirm teacher recommended courses and input selected electives. Students will then meet with their guidance counselor during an assigned time to review and discuss these course requests.

PEER TUTORING
Members of our national Honor Society offer peer tutoring throughout the year. Each year students are invited to use the electronic sign up for tutoring, which can be specific for assignments or long-term with one or more subjects. Tutoring is provided face-to-face and through zoom.
AFTER SCHOOL HELP
After school help is available to all students with an afterschool bus running at 4:00PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students are welcome to work with any teacher who is available. Students should speak directly with their classroom teacher about how to access extra help after school either for specific help or as a long-term part commitment.
SWITCHING LEVELS
No student will be allowed to drop a level without demonstrating a sincere effort to get help. The expectation is for a student to meet with their teacher before or after school. If this effort is not enough, the student should take advantage of meeting with a tutor from the National Honor Society.
Any student considering participating in NCAA Division I or II athletics should consult with the eligibility center to ensure that all selected courses are approved. See the NCAA website for details.
Students are allowed to take no more than two (2) credits of Nauset High School approved online coursework (Edgenuity, Virtual High School, One Schoolhouse) over the span of their high school career. Students that have an accommodation with regards to online coursework will be allowed to take more than two (2) provided it is documented in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Courses offered at Nauset Regional High School should not be replaced by online courses. Any outside courses taken by a student will not be added to the student’s Nauset High School Transcript or used to meet graduation requirements.
DUAL ENROLLMENT AT CAPE COD COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Students must be fully enrolled in the dual enrollment program at CCCC (minimum of 3 courses in the fall/3 courses in the spring).

Courses taken during the summer semesters are placed on the next school year transcript (i.e. a course taken between the sophomore and junior year is placed on the junior year transcript).
For the class of 2024, courses taken during the summer preceding the senior year and during the senior year are placed on the senior year transcript, but they are not calculated into the student’s GPA until the end of the 4th quarter.
It is incumbent upon the student to check the bulletin daily and schedule appointments with their counselor in a timely manner in order to select community college courses.
