The project

Making Sense of Illustrated Handwritten Archives aims to develop a technologically advanced and user-centered digital environment that provides access to archives containing handwritten notes and illustrations. This technological tool, that combines both image and textual recognition, allows, for the first time, an integrated study of underexplored scientific heritage collections and archives in general.

The partners

The research team in Making Sense of Illustrated Handwritten Archives brings together computer and data scientists, science historians, heritage professionals and experts from the creative industry from five different partners. Each partner adds unique knowledge to the project to teach the AI used in the project and to optimize the developed online environment.
