The NFL season has recently come to an end. Now, all eyes are on free agency, a period where certain players' contracts expire and they are free to sign with a new team. As the period began, some major acquisitions have been made, so let’s take a look at some key players who will now be a part of a new team.
First up let’s look at players on the offensive side of the ball. Former Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf was a player who many teams have been targeting, and he ended up being traded to the Steelers for a 2025 2nd Round Draft Pick. Afterwards, he received a 5 year deal worth $150,000,000. Former Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was traded to the Raiders for a 2025 3rd Round Draft Pick to play alongside his former head coach Pete Carroll. Then, the Seahawks signed Sam Darnold to a 3 year contract worth $100,000,000. Davante Adams signed with the Rams on a 2 year deal. Rams receiver Puka Nacua gave up his jersey number of 17 to Davante and he’ll be wearing number 12 for this upcoming season. Quarterback Justin Fields signed a 2 year contract with the New York Jets; the Jets were a team that had an opportunity to draft Fields in the 2021 Draft, but instead they drafted Zach Wilson Now the Jets have the opportunity to have their QB of the future. The Commanders have been capitalizing on their team’s potential as they have traded a 5th round draft pick for wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Now onto the defensive side of the ball. The Patriots have managed to land a 4-year $105,000,000 contract with defensive linemen Milton Williams. Milton is now a Super Bowl champion who is ready to take up a bigger role in New England. The Bills have signed defensive end Joey Bosa to a 1-year $12,600,000 deal. Bosa has been on the Chargers for all of his career and now he has the opportunity to be a big help for another team in the Buffalo Bills. Jonathan Allen was cut by the Commanders and then signed a 3-year contract worth $51,000,000 and can be worth up to $60,000,000 with the Minnesota Vikings. Cornerback Darious Slay signed a 1-year contract with $10,000,000 with the Steelers. Darious Slay is one of the most experienced Cornerbacks in the league right now, so he’ll be a big help for the Steelers defense.
Overall, it has been an exciting offseason so far for the NFL. Will these new settings affect how these players will perform, or will it be an easy adjustment for these players? We’ll just have to wait and see when the NFL season begins on September 4th.
