A diagnosis of Type One Diabetes (T1D) can be an overwhelming time for a student and their family. At KMS, we want you to know that your school nurses have extensive experience and training in T1D management, from CGM's, insulin pumps, treating hypo- and hyperglycemia and more. Our goal at KMS for your student is to manage their T1D with as little disruption in their school day as feasible and to be as independent as safely possible.
Managing T1D in school requires a mutually collaborative relationship between the student, their family, the school nurse and the student's teachers. If your student has been newly diagnosed with T1D, please contact the school nurse to schedule a time to meet and develop a plan for school.
