Natick Public Schools medication administration policy complies with MA state law 105 CMR 210.00 to provide for the health and safety of students who may require medication administration during the school day.
NPS MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION IN SCHOOL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Per MA state law, all medications, including prescription and over the counter (OTC) medications, require a licensed prescriber's order and completed parent/guardian consent form or they cannot be given in school. All medication orders must be renewed annually at the beginning of each school year (dated after June 30th).
Students cannot bring/carry medication to school due to safety concerns and state regulations.

The medication and its required forms must be brought in all together to the health clinic by the parent/guardian or responsible adult or the medication shall not be accepted. Medication must be in its correctly labeled pharmacy container. Medications shall not be accepted in plastic baggies or other containers from home.
Student's cannot self-medicate during the school day with medication brought from home.Daily medications shall be given at home whenever possible. In extenuating circumstances only, and with approval by the school nurse, a daily medication may be given at school.
The standing order OTC medications may not be given to students without written parent/guardian permission. Telephone consent shall not be accepted. Standing order OTC medications shall only be given once during the school day.
It is the parent's/guardian's responsibility to pick up their child's medication at the end of the school year. Any medication not picked up by the closing bell on the last day of school will be destroyed per MA state law and NPS policy.
Parent/guardian is responsible for providing and monitoring their student’s medication and/or medical condition, including but not limited to, Epinephrine, inhalers, insulin, for all before and after-school activities that occur beyond regular school hours, such as, but not limited to, athletic programs, special school events and school-sponsored programs on week-ends and school vacations.
