This week, we began our phonics learning by introducing the initial phonemes s, a, t and p. The children learnt how to say each phoneme correctly and were introduced to the mnemonic rhyme for each one, helping them to remember how to form the corresponding grapheme when writing.
We practised forming the graphemes in lots of different ways, including using sand and sticks, as well as a range of other hands-on activities to support fine motor development and build confidence in our early writing skills.
This week, our learners listened to a variety of music, with each piece evoking different emotions and feelings. They explored how the music made them feel before expressing their responses through painting, using colours, shapes and movements to bring their emotions to life. It was wonderful to see each learner collaborate to create a unique piece of artwork inspired by their own individual experience of the music.
This week, the children had a go at making their own playdough in small groups. Together, they learnt how much of each ingredient was needed and carefully measured, poured and mixed everything together. This supported lots of important skills, including counting, measuring, following instructions, turn-taking and developing fine motor control. The children really enjoyed being involved in the whole process, and with lots more practice, we hope they will soon become confident enough to make their own playdough independently.
This week, our learners have been exploring the concepts of matching, sorting and comparing through a range of fun, hands-on activities. They have been using tweezers to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and control, while also using their previous knowledge to identify similarities and differences.
The children have enjoyed matching colours and objects and sorting them into the correct categories. Through these activities, they have been developing their mathematical thinking, reasoning and ability to explain why objects belong together.

Swimming will begin once the children feel settled, confident and ready for their lessons. Until then, they will continue to enjoy two PE lessons each week. We will share the start date in advance, giving families plenty of time to prepare the swimming essentials.
In the meantime, please support your child by practising dressing and undressing independently at home. This is an important skill that will help them feel confident and successful during their swimming sessions.
A few helpful tips to support snack time:
Pack fruit in a small, separate container to help your child manage their snack independently.
Please cut grapes lengthways, as whole grapes can be a choking hazard for children under five.
Practise good eating habits at home, including sitting while eating and independently opening and closing lunch containers.
A gentle reminder that Nadeen School has a no nut policy. Please do not send nuts or products containing nuts to school.
We love to represent our families in the class, please upload a family photo to Tapestry. We will use these in the classroom to help children feel a sense of belonging and stay connected to the people who are important to them while at school.
