Drawing Club

This week, we have continued with our second week of Drawing Club, exploring the story Aliens Love Underpants. Our focus has been on the character and setting, helping the children to think carefully about who is in the story and where the story takes place.

The learners have been using their imaginations to create their own drawings, add details and talk about their ideas. Our exciting vocabulary this week was identical, concealed, discover and investigate, and we encouraged the children to explore what these words mean and use them in context.

Drawing Club is helping to build confidence in storytelling, mark making, early writing and sharing ideas with others.

Art and Design

This week, the children enjoyed exploring the story Aliens Love Underpants and were inspired to create their very own aliens using modelling clay and a range of colourful loose parts.

The children chose the colour they wanted for their alien and explored the clay using their hands, pinching, rolling, squishing and stretching it to make their own shapes. They then selected different beads, buttons and pipe cleaners to bring their aliens to life, using their imaginations to decide where each piece should go.

It was lovely to see the children experimenting with the materials and sharing their own ideas. Some children used buttons as hats, while others added beads to their aliens’ legs as “bracelets”! Each alien was completely unique, reflecting the children’s individual ideas and creativity.

Phonics - g o c k

This week, our enthusiastic learners have been working incredibly hard during their daily phonics sessions. We introduced the new graphemes g, o, c and k, while revisiting i, n, m and d to strengthen their growing confidence. Through fun, hands-on activities, the children matched objects to their initial sounds, practised forming each grapheme correctly, and developed their segmenting and blending skills using CVC words. We also introduced the tricky word ‘is’. It has been wonderful to see the children approaching each activity with such enthusiasm, determination and pride in their learning!

Fox's Socks

This week, our learners have been exploring sorting, matching and comparing through the much loved story Fox’s Socks. Using real socks, the children enjoyed finding matching pairs, sorting them by different features and explaining their choices. We have also begun comparing amounts using mathematical language such as more, fewer and the same. It has been wonderful to see the children learning through play, sharing their ideas and approaching each activity with curiosity, confidence and plenty of excitement!

Nadeen Book Bags

As part of the school uniform, all children in FS2, Year 1 and Year 2 require a school book bag. Please begin sending these in clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Once book bags are in school, children will bring home reading books, communication logs and helpful resources to support their phonics learning at home.

Children should bring their book bags to school each day to support in school and at home learning.

FS2 PE

Ms Adele: Monday & Tuesday

Swimming will begin once the children feel settled, confident and ready for their lessons. Until then, they will continue to enjoy two PE lessons each week. We will share the start date in advance, giving families plenty of time to prepare the swimming essentials.

In the meantime, please support your child by practising dressing and undressing independently at home. This is an important skill that will help them feel confident and successful during their swimming sessions.

A few helpful tips to support snack time:

Pack fruit in a small, separate container to help your child manage their snack independently.
Please cut grapes lengthways, as whole grapes can be a choking hazard for children under five.
Practise good eating habits at home, including sitting while eating and independently opening and closing lunch containers.

A gentle reminder that Nadeen School has a no nut policy. Please do not send nuts or products containing nuts to school.

Family Photo

We love to represent our families in the class, please upload a family photo to Tapestry. We will use these in the classroom to help children feel a sense of belonging and stay connected to the people who are important to them while at school.

Talent and Achievement Program (TAP) Has Begun!

We are pleased to announce that the Talent and Achievement Program (TAP) has officially begun for the new term.

The program will run from Monday, 7 September to Thursday, 3 December 2026, from 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM, with no sessions on Sundays and Tuesdays.

Please find the TAP Term 1 schedule here, which includes the locations for each session.

Please note that school buses depart at 2:20 PM each day. If your child normally uses the school bus, please arrange alternative pick-up on the days they attend the program.

Let Us Know If Your Child Is Absent

Please use attendance@nadeenschool.com to notify the school if your child will be absent on the day. All of the absence correspondence should as always go through the form tutor. This will help us ensure accurate attendance records and streamline communication. Thank you for your cooperation.

TTF Aquathlon Special Nadeen Discount

Keeping our school community healthy

In line with recommendations from the Ministry of Health, we kindly request your continued cooperation in following health and precautionary measures to help prevent the spread of illness within our school community.

Your support in keeping learners at home when they are unwell is essential in helping to limit the spread of illness. Please ensure that your child does not attend school if they are experiencing any of the following:

High temperature
Contagious conditions
Flu or cold symptoms
Episodes of vomiting or diarrhoea (overnight or in the morning)
Upset stomach

Your diligence in following these guidelines will have a significant impact on maintaining the health and well-being of all learners and staff.
