My Teachers Choices in Action (TCIA) Experience
The TCIA focuses on the thinking work that teachers do with learners and knowledge. We had to complete set units that we were expected to complete. There are 6 units, with added lesson reports and lesson observations at the end of each unit.
Each unit covers a different set of teacher choices. These introduced me you to the main ideas, and it gave me different concepts and ways of thinking about on how to analyse classroom practice.
These units are namely; Unit 1: Choosing to be a teacher, Unit 2: Teacher choices that enable learning in different contexts, Unit 3: Teacher choices for working with knowledge, Unit 4: Teacher choices that promote cumulative learning, Unit 5: Teacher choices for making lessons inclusive and lastly Unit 6: Teacher choices for managing learning environments.
Personally I assumed that this would be easy, but it was a good and informative challenge. I definitely learnt a lot. Given that we did not have our teaching practice away at schools, this helped me develop a new insight on many teachings, strategies and approaches.
I appreciated that the units where very interactive and that we had to apply our own understanding on what was taught/presents throughout the units. It was also very relatable to my university coursework, many links and connections were very evident. It gave me a deeper understanding on my previously taught course work, yet also testing and expanding my knowledge simultaneously.
Given it was different to actually being within the classroom and actually teaching and testing these new concepts and theory learnt via the TCIA. I learnt a lot and wont mind doing it next year again.
I am very thankful for have being part of this learning experience.
