World Vision is a Christianity based approached global development and advocacy organisation that helps children, families and communities overcome poverty and injustice, irrespective of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.
"World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God. "
The Global Centre is responsible for providing overarching leadership and global coordination for the organization; its core business is to set and enforce worldwide policies and standards, acting as the central hub for implementing programs in various countries, with many of its senior executives—including the President—based near London.
The support offices primarily focus on fundraising activities; their core function is to generate the financial resources needed to support World Vision’s global programs, engaging over 10 million donors to secure funds that enable program delivery worldwide.
Field offices serve as the local operational hubs where programs are implemented; their core policy is to work directly with local agencies and community members to deliver tailored child-focused development initiatives, ensuring that interventions meet the unique needs of vulnerable communities and help transform the lives of over 100 million children and their families.
National offices, collectively referred to as the “World Vision Partnership,” collaborate closely under a shared vision—“life in all its fullness for every child”; their core business is to adapt global standards and policies to local contexts, ensuring consistency while remaining responsive to regional needs, even though they do not form a legal partnership per se.
World Vision International’s Board of Directors sets overall standards and policies, while the Council—its highest governing authority—makes fundamental decisions; additionally, many support and field offices have their own national governing bodies, ensuring that local policies align with global directives and that accountability is maintained across all levels.
Legally, World Vision International is incorporated as a religious non-profit corporation under California law and is recognized as a tax-exempt organization by U.S. tax authorities (and in other countries), which guides its financial and operational policies to adhere to ethical and regulatory standards.
World Vision's Transformational Development Policy defines poverty as a complex challenge involving material deprivation, broken relationships, and social injustice, and it seeks to address these issues by integrating spiritual, social, material, and political approaches into one holistic development process. The policy empowers children, families, and communities to plan and manage their own transformation while ensuring that World Vision’s role remains that of a temporary facilitator who builds local leadership and capacity for long-term sustainability. It firmly acknowledges God's active presence in the process, incorporating prayer and discernment into every stage of planning and implementation, thereby uniting divine guidance with human effort. Furthermore, the policy fosters ethical and transparent partnerships with local governments, civil society organizations, and churches to ensure that the most vulnerable are included and that all efforts contribute to lasting, inclusive change.
