Summer 2025 FAQ's & Resources: Schedule Changes, Athletic Process, New Student Info, etc.
Welcome to Legacy Magnet Academy! We are delighted to welcome you to Legacy Magnet Academy (LMA)! As you embark on this exciting journey, we want to ensure you are well-prepared for the IVC Dual Enrollment process and provide you with other LMA information that will help you get more familiar with our school culture and curriculum.
Before joining us on campus, please prioritize the following items and review this page for detailed information on how to complete these steps.
Become an Irvine Valley College Student:
In order to participate in our required Dual Enrollment program, you must complete your Irvine Valley College (IVC) Application ASAP
Once your account is confirmed and you receive email confirmation, gain formal approval to add LMA-Specific IVC Classes by submitting the CCAP form (not the K-12 General Dual Enrollment form)
This will allow the new student to add classes in the Fall with their LMA student-specific APC code and Ticket Number (provided at registration).
Any delays to this process can prevent the student from adding their course on time.
Students are not able to access their IVC course work and class Canvas until their CCAP is submitted by the student, approved by all parties (parents, LMA, IVC), and APC codes have been added successfully in MySite.
Learn more about Legacy Magnet Academy by reading Dr. Harrison's Onboarding Newsletter and following our various Instagram accounts.
At LMA, we prioritize your academic success and personal growth. Dual enrollment allows you to take college-level courses through Irvine Valley College (IVC) while still in middle or high school. This opportunity not only enriches your learning experience, contributes to A-G eligibility and CTE pathways; but also gives you a head start on college credits.
With that, it’s important that you complete the necessary steps to formally become an IVC student. This will allow you to add LMA-approved courses in a timely manner (once counselors provide codes).
As a new student, it is crucial that you prioritize the following:
Step 1: Applying to IVC
Step 2: Complete your student enrollment by setting up IVC Mysite & Email
Step 3: Ensure you are approved to add your class on time by completing the CCAP form (approval form for Dual Enrollment courses at LMA)
Step 4: Officially add your LMA-specific IVC courses with your ticket number
Ticket numbers will be provided & added into Mysite in-class during the first week of school.
Once these steps are completed, you will be able to add your LMA-specific IVC courses. This step is not possible without first completing steps 1-3, which can be done independently at home. Delays with completing the CCAP form can potentially create delays with adding IVC classes on time, which will prevent students from accessing curriculum when the semester begins.
Please see below for a simplified breakdown of all required steps.
Students are dually enrolled in both IVC courses and LMA courses. This is a requirement for all LMA students in grades 7-12.
Dual enrollment courses are taught at LMA by IVC college instructors.
Grades are weighted (earn an additional point toward the LMA grade point average).
Students are building a college transcript with each new course.
Homework will be assigned (IVC homework policy is different than LMA policy).
Dual enrollment is in lieu of AP courses. LMA does not offer AP courses.

To complete the CCAP Form, please follow the steps below. It is essential you review the information carefully as CCAP Forms can only be corrected by counselors contacting IVC directly. Please take your time. Counselors are not available for support during holidays and breaks.
Visit the CCAP Page
Go to IVC CCAP.
Click “How do I complete the CCAP Dual Enrollment Form?” and then “Legacy Magnet Academy.”
(If the CCAP webpage says that your student has already submitted, the student does NOT need to submit a new form. Students now only have to submit 1 CCAP form for their entire LMA career.)

Click on the “Log In” tab located on the top of the ivc.edu main page, select “MySite”
Log in using your college ID number and PIN or IVC email address and password
Click on the “My Classes” on the top of the page and then “Add/Drop Classes”
Select the correct term
(If prompted to review information, answer to the best of your ability)
When prompted, enter the ticket number and APC code provided by your counselor.
Be sure to select “NO” for all fees as you do not need to purchase anything for CCAP dual enrollment classes
Select “I approve refund policy”
You should see “enrolled” in green at the very end of the process, select this to finish the enrollment process.
**If you need to exit before completing the Add transaction while using this APC code, be sure that you select the ‘Cancel Registration’ button or else the APC will no longer be valid when you return.
This step is essential to enroll in the IVC Course. Seeing the course on LMA's schedule does not mean that you have completed this class. To confirm that you have added the class successfully through IVC, please check your "Current Classes" in Mysite.
As you embark on this exciting educational journey, it’s essential to understand how your grades in dual enrollment courses will affect your academic progress. Here’s what you need to know:
1. Importance of Passing Grades
Course Prerequisites: Some dual enrollment courses are part of a sequence. This means that passing the initial course is required to advance to the next level. If you do not pass a course, you will need to retake it (during summer) before moving on to subsequent courses. For instance, failing a prerequisite math course means you cannot enroll in the next higher-level math course until you pass the initial one.
2. Impact on Transcripts: You now have a High School Transcript AND a College Transcript
College Transcripts:
Since these courses are college-level, the grades you receive will appear on your college transcript from IVC, this is a separate transcript from LMA. This transcript will follow you throughout your college career (into your graduate and doctoral programs) and may be considered by future colleges and universities when you apply for transfer or admission to degree programs.
High School Transcripts:
The grades you earn in dual enrollment courses will also be included in your high school GPA calculation. This can influence your overall academic standing, eligibility for certain high school programs, and even scholarship opportunities.
Retaking Courses
Requirement to Retake Failed Courses
If you do not pass a dual enrollment course, the only way to remediate the course is by taking it again at the community college, outside of the bell schedule (after school, summer, etc.).
To sign up for college classes outside of the bell schedule, you must follow the instructions for IVC’s K-12 General Dual Enrollment process (not CCAP).
In order to be approved for Dual Enrollment courses during Fall or Spring semester, students must be maintaining satisfactory grades in their LMA courses. Otherwise, you will be asked to take additional classes over the summer where they will not further compromise their in-bell classes.
Retaking the course at the college will be the only way that will allow you to raise your GPA and replace the D/F grade point originally earned.
Impact on Scheduling
Course Availability: Keep in mind that retaking a course may affect your schedule and potentially delay your academic plans at LMA. It’s crucial to stay on top of your coursework and seek help if you’re struggling, so you can avoid having to retake classes.
Take advantage of your professor's office hours and be sure to email them (through your IVC Email Account!)
When in doubt, contact your LMA Counselor for more support
1. Utilizing Resources
Tutoring and Counseling: LMA and IVC offer various academic support services, including tutoring, office hours and counseling. Take advantage of these resources if you need extra help with your coursework. Proactively seeking support can make a significant difference in your academic performance.

2. Communicating with Instructors
Stay Engaged: Regularly communicate with your instructors about your progress. If you are facing challenges, inform them early so they can provide guidance or additional resources to help you succeed.
Take advantage of your professor's office hours and be sure to email them (through your IVC Email Account!)
3. Balancing Commitments
Time Management: Balancing dual enrollment courses with your high school responsibilities requires good time management. Make a schedule that allows you to dedicate sufficient time to each subject while also making room for extracurricular activities and rest.
Unlike LMA, IVC will provide homework and will not allow assessment retakes. These are real college courses that follow IVC's Policy.
4. Regularly Check Canvas, Mysite & IVC Email
Stay Informed: It’s important to regularly check your Canvas account to keep track of assignments, tests, and important information from your professors. Staying updated ensures you don’t miss any crucial deadlines or course materials.
Your professors will only use IVC emails. Be sure this is set up and monitored regularly.
5. Monitoring Progress
Track Your Grades: Use Canvas to monitor your grades and academic progress throughout the semester. This helps you stay aware of your performance and address any issues promptly.
Parents, we recommend sitting down with your student at least once a week to review the "Grades" tab in Canvas. This will show you all of the assignments completing, missing, and potentially coming up.
Due to FERPA, our students have privacy as college students and their IVC professors will not be in contact with you in regard to their progress.
Additionally, LMA staff have limited access to this information as well and cannot provide detailed summaries of how your student is doing in their IVC courses.
5. Stay Organized
Keep a folder in Google Drive for IVC account information:
Usernames/Passwords, Pin Number
Email Addresses (personal, IVC, LMA)
PDF copies of your completed CCAP Forms
PDF copies of your Class-Add Confirmations
Homework/Notes
Links & Portals
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act):
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the US Department of Education. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. In accordance with FERPA, professors will only communicate directly with their students in the IVC course and will not be able to respond to parent emails or phone calls, all communication must be done with the student directly.
Accommodations due to learning and/or physical disabilities:
Any student with an IEP or 504 plan can contact the Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS) department at IVC and present a copy of the current IEP or 504 for evaluation to determine what services can be provided by the college. The level of service and accommodations can be different than those provided at Legacy and is determined by IVC. The DSPS department provides support services, specialized instruction and accommodations to students with a disability, allowing them to fully participate and benefit from an equitable college experience. The overall mission of DSPS is to provide exemplary instruction, support services and access to students with disabilities. DSPS will support students with disabilities in educationally related activities consistent with the mission and vision of Irvine Valley College and in compliance with federal and state laws.
