Dear Families,
At Legacy Magnet Academy, our 7th grade students participate in an accelerated math program that covers the second half of 7th grade math and all of 8th grade math. To ensure success, all 7th grade students must be familiar with key concepts typically covered in the first half of 7th grade math.
Below is a list of important topics and the specific skills your child should be comfortable with before entering 7th grade this fall:
Draw and describe geometric shapes with given conditions
Understand and use formulas for area of triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids
Use angle relationships (complementary, supplementary, vertical, adjacent)
Calculate surface area of 3D figures (prisms, pyramids)
Use nets to represent 3D solids
Apply formulas involving squares and rectangles
Understand volume as the number of unit cubes that fill a space
Calculate volume of right prisms using V=B×hV = B \times hV=B×h
Distinguish between surface area and volume
Understand probability as a number between 0 and 1
Determine probability of simple and compound events
Use organized lists, tables, and tree diagrams to model outcomes
Analyze data using mean, median, mode, and range
Create and interpret dot plots, histograms, and box plots
Understand and use measures of center and variability
While we are not assigning summer homework, we strongly recommend that families use this list to guide optional summer review and learning.
