Students are dually enrolled in both IVC courses and LMA courses. This is a requirement for all LMA students in grades 7-12.
As an LMA set-curriculum requirement, students are not permitted to substitute or drop their IVC CCAP (in-bell) courses.
Dual enrollment courses are taught at LMA by IVC college instructors.
Grades are weighted (earn an additional point toward the LMA grade point average).
Students are building a college transcript with each new course.
Homework will be assigned (IVC homework policy is different than LMA policy).
Dual enrollment is in lieu of AP courses. LMA does not offer AP courses.
1. Utilizing Resources
Tutoring and Counseling: LMA and IVC offer various academic support services, including tutoring, office hours and counseling. Take advantage of these resources if you need extra help with your coursework. Proactively seeking support can make a significant difference in your academic performance.

When in doubt, contact your LMA Counselor for more support
2. Communicating with Instructors
Stay Engaged: Regularly communicate with your instructors about your progress. If you are facing challenges, inform them early so they can provide guidance or additional resources to help you succeed.
Take advantage of your professor's office hours and be sure to email them (through your IVC Email Account!)
3. Balancing Commitments
Time Management: Balancing dual enrollment courses with your high school responsibilities requires good time management. Make a schedule that allows you to dedicate sufficient time to each subject while also making room for extracurricular activities and rest.
Unlike LMA, IVC will provide homework and will not allow assessment retakes. These are real college courses that follow IVC's Policy.
4. Regularly Check Canvas, Mysite & IVC Email
Stay Informed: It’s important to regularly check your Canvas account to keep track of assignments, tests, and important information from your professors. Staying updated ensures you don’t miss any crucial deadlines or course materials.
Your professors will only use IVC emails. Be sure this is set up and monitored regularly.
5. Monitoring Progress
Track Your Grades: Use Canvas to monitor your grades and academic progress throughout the semester. This helps you stay aware of your performance and address any issues promptly.
Parents, we recommend sitting down with your student at least once a week to review the "Grades" tab in Canvas. This will show you all of the assignments completing, missing, and potentially coming up.
Due to FERPA, our students have privacy as college students and their IVC professors will not be in contact with you in regard to their progress.
Additionally, LMA staff have limited access to this information as well and cannot provide detailed summaries of how your student is doing in their IVC courses.
5. Stay Organized
Keep a folder in Google Drive for IVC account information:
Usernames/Passwords, Pin Number
Email Addresses (personal, IVC, LMA)
PDF copies of your completed CCAP Forms
PDF copies of your Class-Add Confirmations
Homework/Notes
Links & Portals
Accommodations due to learning and/or physical disabilities:
If your students has an IEP or 504 plan, the student can contact the Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS) department at IVC and present a copy of the current IEP or 504 for evaluation to determine what services can be provided by the college. The level of service and accommodations can be different than those provided at Legacy and is determined by IVC in compliance with federal and state laws. The DSPS department provides support services, specialized instruction, and accommodations to students with a disability, allowing them to fully participate and benefit from an equitable college experience. The overall mission of DSPS is to provide exemplary instruction, support services and access to students with disabilities.
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act):
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the US Department of Education. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. In accordance with FERPA, professors will only communicate directly with their students in the IVC course and will not be able to respond to parent emails or phone calls. All communication must be done with the student directly.
Robert Melendez from Irvine Valley College presented an overview of dual enrollment options available to Legacy Magnet students, explaining both LMA CCAP courses and general dual enrollment courses that can help students earn an associate's degree. He detailed the requirements for associate's degrees, including the 60-unit structure, general education patterns (CalGETC and IGETC), and specific course requirements for various majors and emphasis areas. The presentation concluded with information about programming students in the LMA program, including enrollment processes, class limitations, and transfer options to other community colleges.

Want to see the full detailed breakdown on how to become an IVC student (application process), how to complete the CCAP form, or how to officially add your LMA-specific courses in IVC Mysite? Click the link above.
Your CCAP form is required in order for you to approve LMA-specific IVC courses in our bell schedule. Please complete this ASAP and carefully. Click above for instructions on how to complete.
At LMA, students are required to monitor two separate school systems as part of the Dual Enrollment Program.
Parents, please review the different platforms with your student so that you can help monitor their progress in both LMA and IVC courses.
We encourage you to sit down with your student 1x/week to review their IVC coursework with them (IVC Professors cannot share progress updates due to FERPA).
Find the class you'd like to take in IVC's Class Schedule
Look at the correct term (ex: “Summer 2024”)
Take note of the Ticket #
Choose the class based on format (online vs. in-person) and time the class takes place (if fully online, do they have any virtual meetings? etc.)
LMA will not approve classes that are offered within LMA’s bell schedule

Login with IVC Credentials
Complete the k-12 Dual Enrollment form, NOT the CCAP Form.
Complete the form for Legacy Magnet Academy: LMA Staff Review and Submit for Approval/Denial.
If denied, LMA Staff will contact student to let them know why.
Wait for all parties to sign/approve
Parent - ensure the email address is correctly entered on the Dual Enrollment Form
LMA - Please allow 24-48 hours for approval
IVC - Please allow turnaround time for this process as well; especially during busy enrollment times
Follow the directions provided by IVC via email to add your class in Mysite
Adding the class via Mysite will be a similar process under "Add/Drop"
The above instructions will be a separate process from enrolling in LMA/IVC courses that are within our bell schedule. If you have any questions or issues with adding the class, you will need to contact IVC directly: admissions@ivc.edu
Saddleback:
For Saddleback, you can find the instructions and Dual Enrollment form for K-12 here: https://www.saddleback.edu/apply-pay/how-apply/k-12-student
Different from IVC, the form is paper.
Student will need to get the form signed by Dr. Harrison.
Once the form is complete, he will need to email it to Saddleback's admissions office at: scadmissions@saddleback.edu
Once Saddleback processes the form (it should only take a couple of days), he can log into MySite in order to formally enroll. Only the ticket number is required.
Plan Ahead:
Dual Enrollment requests require a 24-48 hour minimum for LMA approval
During registration season, classes fill very quickly as K-12 students do not have priority when adding general dual enrollment courses
Submit your requests early for best efforts in securing your desired course(s)
Course requests must be submitted every semester/term that you wish to take a class
Ryon Tanara, AP, will be the main contact for ALL community college class approvals (IVC, Saddleback, Santa Ana College, etc.)
Students are responsible for submitting all community college dual enrollment requests directly to Parisa Mazandarani for approval.
Students cannot take dual enrollment that are offered at LMA (both LMA & IVC)
Students must maintain satisfactory grades in their LMA courses in order to be approved for additional classes during the Fall or Spring Semester
You are welcome to consult with our IVC Counselor, Mr. Melendez, if you'd like further guidance on which classes you should be taking to further work towards Cal-GETC/General Ed. at the college level.
