These learning hopes were filled out at the beginning of my SNHU experience in the fall of 2018. Please see my Culminating Reflection under Action Research for context of ending this experience.
I hope to learn how to create multiple units based on UDL and ultimately create an environment of learning where students have more choice and voice in their education. I aspire to have students understand why education is essential and that they can take hold of that to grow as lifelong learners.
How can UDL be successfully implemented where students will understand the importance of taking part in their learning?
How can I begin to build a curriculum that can reach students personally as well as reach to global interests? What does that entail?
I aspire to learn different mediums of technology and how to implement them successfully. From reading sources online to reflections to assessments, I want to learn how to best engage my students with technology when appropriate and to create that avenue of learning to best suit their needs.
How do I know the line between the usage of technology and when to hold back from it in different contexts? (i.e., advisory routine versus mini lessons in core curriculum)
How can I create a continuous habit of learning new methods of including technology in the classroom?
My goal is to learn about different methods of assessing and evaluating students. I want to include more self-assessments/evaluations and reflections in hopes that students will learn how to have a growth mindset when it comes to being a continuous learning.
How can assessments be modified for every learning style?
How can I create a balance of formal assessments/evaluations as well as informal?
My goal is to learn about effective leadership but also learning how to collaborate with my colleagues and students. Organization allows that to show because it you are able to build on your skills and implement them while continuous learning.
What are the steps to being a leader while not being overbearing or ignorant?
What is the significance of being organized as a leader and using that to help others?
I aspire to learn how my students mature mentally and emotionally and how that connects to their development in their education. I also wish to bring in the trauma response understanding and ensuring that this knowledge is used in my practice.
How does one keep track of students mentally and emotionally and consistently use that information to their benefit?
How can curriculum have a stronger focus on the mental and emotional needs of our students?
There are so many things that I want to experience and learn about, I honestly don't know where to start as a first year teacher. My goal is to learn about what are my priorities around what I want to focus on and creating a plan to do just that.
How do I start prioritizing certain skills and deciding which to focus on?
How can I collaborate with veteran teachers and use their knowledge to help figure out what I want to focus on?
Going into administration has always been a goal of mine, so I wish to learn more about what the process is like for that career path and what different learning experiences go along with that process.
What are the requirements to becoming an administrator? What is the timeline?
There are so many resources and methods around teaching throughout the world. My goal is to learn about some of those different methods and break out of my comfort zone to experience those because it can benefit my own teaching methods.
Where do you begin looking into different methods of teaching outside your own? Is there a place where you "stop"?
What different travel opportunities would there be to take advantage of in this program, if any?
