How can I use social-emotional learning, specifically self management, to help my students engage in reading and writing?
Purpose Statement
I believe that students should be able to connect their social-emotional journey to their learning. The purpose of this action research is to educate students on self management and have them explore the connection to their independent reading and writing. I hope that this action research allows me to learn more about social-emotional learning and connecting those to skills in my practice and apply them to help students engage in their independent reading and writing.
Guiding Research Questions
How can we teach our students about social-emotional learning and how it connects to their academic experiences?
How can we connect social-emotional thinking to increasing student engagement at the middle level?
What professional development can be provided for all faculty, staff and families to take part of so that supports are well rounded and interconnected?
How do we ensure that our report cards and grading systems are altered so that our students social-emotional needs are met and understood? To ensure that their social-emotional needs are reflected in their learning process?
