Classmate design

Reflection: For this project, I wanted to create something that reflected both Ms. Weiner as a designer and the overall experience of Graphic Design 2. Throughout the year, we learned about a lot of different styles and techniques that changed the way I look at art and design. Some of the things that stood out to me the most were pop art, cut and paste collage, deconstructionism, halftones, layering, typography, and texture, so I wanted to combine all of those ideas into one piece.

I decided to use a newspaper/editor style layout because it reminded me of storytelling, which were important ideas we talked about throughout the class. I wanted the design to feel bold, chaotic, creative, and experimental while still looking visually balanced. The repeated “WOW” text was meant to represent excitement, creativity, and the feeling of discovering new ideas through graphic design.

I used Vizcom as part of my creative process to experiment with different layouts, textures, and mixed-media effects. It helped me combine multiple graphic design styles together and create a more layered and expressive composition. I also used it to help create the halftone textures and collage-inspired look throughout the piece.

I used Ms. Weiner’s portrait as the main focus because this project was about reflecting who she is as a teacher and designer. I edited the portrait using bold contrast, layering, and halftone textures to match the pop-art and deconstructed aesthetic. I also included rough edges, overlapping paper textures, and imperfect compositions because I wanted the piece to feel more experimental and creative instead of perfectly clean.
