Round Square Global Collaborative Online Project: COVID-19
The understanding goals of this project included:
To be able to become citizens of the world by communicating with different countries.
To be able to exchange feelings and thoughts about the current situation with other children from around the world.
To be able to express myself in proper English with kids from around the world (important goal for Argentinian students).
To be able to create and publish a small act of kindness to give emotional support to the people who are working on the front lines.
Twenty grade 4-7 Wentworth students put forth their names to participate in this meaningful online global COVID-19 project. The short-term project was initiated by Godspell College (Round Square school in Buenos Aires, Argentina). Our students have been divided into six smaller working groups with a mission to accomplish! Each group chose a frontline worker to target and was asked to write a heartfelt thank you note for that worker. For example, doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, trash collectors, grocery store clerks, city maintenance, etc. were some of the frontline workers considered.
The points that needed to be considered while composing their thank you note included:
Their exposure to COVID-19 patients/people
Resources they have (or should have)
Their families
How society views them
In addition to writing their thank you notes, the students were able to meet their Argentinian buddies through two Zoom meetings. It has been a super fun way to talk about the similarities and differences between Argentina and Canada. All participating schools (Ontario, BC, Argentina and India) will get to view each others projects posted on a shared Flipgrid.
