Hello, 2024!
Hello, 2024!
Living in a different country offers a wealth of fresh experiences. As a foreign English teacher in Taiwan, I had the delightful chance to celebrate New Year and explain its significance to my students. While they also observe the Lunar/Chinese New Year, the fundamental essence - renewal, reflection, and hope - remains unchanged.
According to the Chinese Zodiac, the year 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. For 3rd & 4th grades, I shared New Year-themed words and the sentence structures, " What is it? It is a/an ___." In addition, I also shared when to use the articles a/an appropriately. To reinforce their learning, I incorporated interactive activities like Gold Quest in Blooket to boost their reading abilities, and Tic-Tac-Toe to improve their listening and speaking skills. For more information on these activities, please refer to my detailed lesson plan below.
For 5th and 6th graders, I introduced the idea of New Year's Resolutions by explaining that they are promises made to oneself at the beginning of a new year. It involves setting goals to improve or try new things. I guided them through creating their own resolutions and encouraged them to share them with the class. Additionally, to strengthen their vocabulary, I organized an activity similar to "Paint Me a Picture. For more information on these activities, please refer to my detailed lesson plan below.
Let’s welcome 2024 with excitement and positivity. Happy New Year to everyone!
