Christmas 2023
Christmas 2023
Growing up, Christmas was always a cherished time for me. But when I moved to a country where Christmas wasn't as common, I wanted to share its magic. I introduced the concept of Christmas and its symbols to my new community through engaging activities. Join me as I share my journey of bringing the joy of Christmas to a new place!
For 1st grade, I concentrated on sharing information about Santa and its symbolism. I observed that Santa is the most recognized Christmas symbol for them. When I displayed his picture, nearly everyone recognized him immediately. Using a song from the Super Simple Songs YouTube channel, I was able to teach them words that best describe Santa's physical appearance.
For 2nd-4th grades, I focused on sharing the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, providing a brief history of the character. Additionally, we played the game "Pin the Nose on Rudolph." Before starting the game, I taught them directional terms. The students were enthusiastic about pinning the nose on Rudolph within a set time. This activity improved their listening and speaking skills, as a blindfolded student had to rely on their partner's directions to successfully pin the nose on Rudolph.
For 5th-6th grades, I introduced various common Christmas symbols and explained their significance. After that, I taught them the key sentence pattern, "How many ___ are there?" using Christmas-themed examples.
In doing so, I discovered the power of Christmas to transcend borders and bring people together in a spirit of love and unity.
I recently taught my students about Christmas, covering its meaning, popular symbols, songs, and important phrases associated with the holiday. It seems like my students enjoyed the lesson, and I'm already excited about next year's Christmas!
