Health and Social Care Apprenticeships
Created by Apprentices - for Apprentices!
Starting your apprenticeship can be both exciting and overwhelming, but you’re not alone. This website has been created by apprentices, for apprentices, with one goal in mind: to help you succeed from your first day and beyond.
Here, you’ll find practical tips, guides, and real experiences shared by apprentices who have been exactly where you are now. Using insights from student surveys and collaboration with OFSTED, we’ve designed this platform to give you the tools, confidence, and support you need to reach your goals.
Whether you’re an apprentice, teacher, or educator, you’ll discover everything you need to make the most of your apprenticeship journey all in one place
Apprenticeships are available in many fields, from healthcare and engineering to business and the creative industries and they can lead to a wide range of qualifications, from entry-level certificates to degree-level awards.
In short, an apprenticeship is a bridge between education and employment, offering a practical, supported route into a profession where learning is grounded in real-world experience.
About apprenticeships?
An apprenticeship is a structured training program that combines practical, on-the-job experience with academic and classroom learning. It allows student the chance to earn while they learn, gaining real work experience alongside studying for a recognised qualification.
During an apprenticeship, the Apprentice works for an employer, usually under the guidance of experienced staff, while also completing formal study, often one day a week or in dedicated study blocks. This balance helps them develop both hands-on skills and theoretical understanding that are directly relevant to their chosen career.
At Sheffield Hallam, we learn in a blended way. A mix of face-to-face and online sessions. In-person teaching gives you the chance to practise hands-on skills, work in groups, and connect with tutors, while online learning lets you study at your own pace and revisit materials whenever needed. This flexible approach helps you balance academic study, placements, and personal life.
