High Leverage Practices (HLPs)—
I will provide technologies to support all phases of instruction planning- I will design a Google Slides presentation on the Mexican-American War that includes text and images that the students can follow along to in Nearpod.
I will provide flexible grouping
I will instruct the students to work in the small groups I’ve composed of students with varying skill levels.
Introduction- I will provide students with the opportunity to share their responses, including orally, written, and even coming up to the board to point out an answer.
Development- I will provide students with multiple ways to share their responses, such as orally sharing their observations or writing what they noticed in the chat will give students the ability to choose which mode of response they feel most comfortable utilizing to express their ideas and thoughts.
Monitoring Student Learning- I will vary the length of time a student may take to complete a task in order to provide additional support for a struggling learner. I will assign each group a teacher candidate to collaborate with the students as they complete their group assignment. I will alot for more time if students are struggling to finish the assignment.
Closure- I will allow as many students from the group to speak that are comfortable speaking in front of the class, with the minimum being one student representative per group. I will also provide multiple ways for students to share their favorite part of the lesson, such as written or orally.
Independent Practice- I will offer two options to complete the assignment: 1.) to create a written report featuring key details and vocabulary on Mexican-American War 2.) to create a FlipGrid video explaining details of the Mexican-American War.
