Overview 3:45 - 4:00
We started off the day by going to the Stronger Hope Baptist Church to learn about and see one of the Urban Conservancy's Front Yard Initiative (FYI) projects. Sam Commagere + Dana Eness taught us how the project helps improve New Orleans' stormwater management.
We went to Lafitte Greenway, a green infrastructure that is a linear park. This infrastructure contributes to stormwater management through its bioswales, permeable pavement, and bio-retention cells.
We then went to the New Basin Canal Lighthouse run by the Pontchartrain Conservancy where we learned about the way they install green infrastructure and monitor water quality from Kimberly Cooke, Education Coordinator. The way that local plants can help with sustainability in a green infrastructure was introduced with emphasis.
