About Me

My name is Janice Witkowski. I have lived in Northwest Indiana all of my life, spending the last 25 years in the Crown Point/Merrillville area. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Purdue Northwest and spent most of my first career working with children and families at Purdue Northwest and Geminus Head Start in a variety of roles.

After experiencing the challenges of my mother’s sudden and unexpected illness, I felt a calling to shift the focus of my work with families into nursing. With the unwavering support of my husband and 3 grown children, I graduated from Ivy Tech with my nursing degree.

My first position as a nurse was on the telemetry unit at the Franciscan-Hammond hospital. Then I spent 2 years providing nursing support to terminally ill patients and their families in hospice. I am excited to be the school nurse at MIS and to serve the school corporation that educated my children. My mission is to support student academic success by providing a safe and healthy environment.

When I am not at school, I like to spend my free time traveling to historical places, watching the birds and deer in my backyard, playing with my silly pugs, binge watching “Friends”, and winning against my family on game night.

Together we can make this school year safe and successful.
