2021 Inspired Innovation Center Family Workshop Series

Overview

The Miscoe Hill Inspired Innovation Center invites you to join in for the second year of our family workshops. This year our workshops will focus on the "do your :bit challenge" in which students and families explore and tackle real-world problems through the UN's Global Goals and creativity via the micro:bit. This is a hands-on, minds-on opportunity that culminates in the open-ended, global challenge where students get to apply newly developed digital skills. More information can be found here.

The workshops will be held virtually via Zoom and run from 6:00 - 8:00. Students and families may attend all or some of the sessions. Participation in the do your bit final challenge is expected for all those who register. The schedule of workshops is as follow:

1/14/21: Introduction to Global Goal #3: Health & Well Being & the Calming LED challenge

2/11/21: Bit Challenge Introduction & the Protecting Land Animals challenge

3/11/21: Healthy Oceans challenge

4/15/21: Helping Plants Grow challenge

5/6/21: do your :bit challenge Work Time

6/1/21: do your "bit challenge Playtesting / Feedback

No programming or robotics experience is necessary, just a willingness to tinker & have fun. Parent attendance and participation are encouraged. While the program is middle school-focused, we welcome upper elementary (Gr. 3 & Gr. 4) and Nipmuc students to participate.

2 micro:bit devices will be provided to the first 50 Miscoe Hill families that register for the workshop. The participation cost for all others is $33 which includes 2 micro:bit that you are able to keep and all required supplies.
